The Rangers were officially sold to attorney Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan on Saturday.
Tom Hicks was forced to sell the team because of financial issues. "Nolan and I greatly appreciate Tom Hicks’ willingness to work beyond the deadline to complete the deal and his support for passing the torch from the Hicks family to our group," said Greenberg in a release. "His actions speak eloquently to his commitment to serve the best interests of Rangers fans and the community."

Tom Hicks' sale of the Rangers could be announced as early as Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The Hicks Sports Group is working on an agreement with a 12-man investment team headed by Pittsburgh sports attorney Chuck Greenberg. It sounds like most of the necessary paperwork has been sorted through and only a few minor issues remain. The purchase must be approved by baseball's executive and ownership committees, and 75 percent of team owners, but that process should run smoothly.

With Marlon Byrd bound for Chicago, the Rangers are looking to bolster to the middle of their lineup, reports T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.
"We'd like to add a presence in the lineup," said Rangers general manager Jon Daniels. "We'd like to add at least one bat, if not potentially two. We may still do something on the pitching side, but we're focused more on the hitting side right now." Texas would prefer a right-handed bat, but would consider a left-handed bat at the right price. It isn't known who the Rangers are pursuing, but Sullivan floats Jermaine Dye, Vladimir Guerrero, Xavier Nady, Carlos Delgado and Gary Sheffield, among others, as possibilities.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com expects the Rangers to improve their team through trades rather than free agency this winter.
The Rangers have interest in free agents such as John Lackey, Vladimir Guerrero, Jermaine Dye and Ben Sheets, but the club's limited financial flexibility will be a factor. Along those lines, Sullivan reminds that the Rangers were the only club last winter who failed to sign a free agent to a major league contract. Sullivan writes that the Rangers have some starting pitching depth to offer via trade, including Brandon McCarthy.

Ian Kinsler slugged a three-run home run in a win over the Rays on Friday night.
The eighth-inning blast was his first dinger since Sept. 1. After a promising August, Kinsler has sunk to a .238 batting average with just two home runs and six RBI this month. He has driven in just 28 runs since the All-Star break.

Ian Kinsler hit a pair of homers to drive in four runs as the Rangers beat the Yankees 7-2 on Thursday.
The Rangers won easily even though their starter, Dustin Nippert, walked seven in 3 2/3 innings and the Yankees' starter, A.J. Burnett, fanned 12 in six innings. Taking two out of three in Yankee Stadium is huge for their postseason hopes. They're two games behind Boston in the wild card with the Red Sox scheduled to play tonight.
