Under the terms of the new one-year agreement, the Athletics can't offer Justin Duchscherer arbitration if he is a Type A free agent, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
This is similar to the agreement the Athletics reached with Orlando Cabrera last winter. It's part of an effort to boost Duchscherer's appeal on the free agent market once he hits free agency. It hasn't helped Cabrera this winter, but if Duchscherer can be anything close to the pitcher he was in 2008, he will surely be rewarded with a lucrative multi-year contract.

Athletics signed RHP Justin Duchscherer to a one-year contract.
Terms were not revealed, however he is expected to earn a $2 million base salary with another $3.5 million in possible incentives. Duchscherer, 32, missed the entire 2009 season after elbow surgery and treatment for clinical depression, but was 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in his first season as a starter in 2008. He'll be expected to be a veteran presence on a young staff that also includes Brett Anderson, Dallas Braden and Trevor Cahill.

The Athletics are planning to officially announce their new contract with Justin Duchscherer on Wednesday afternoon.
Duchscherer completed his physical on Tuesday. His new contract with the A's is worth $2 million in guaranteed base salary, and he can earn another $3.5 million through performance-based incentives. The 32-year-old missed all of the 2009 season while dealing with injuries and clinical depression but posted a 10-8 record with a 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 22 starts in 2008.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Justin Duchscherer will earn a $2 million base salary in his new contract with the A's.
This deal looks even better for Oakland. Of course, Duchscherer could earn up to $5.5 million in incentives should he surpass 30 starts and 200 innings, the Athletics would surely be pleased if that came to pass. The 32-year-old right-hander should slot in as the team's No. 1 starter in front of Dallas Braden, Brett Anderson and Trevor Cahill. Expect an official announcement after Christmas, as the agreement is still pending a physical.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Athletics have agreed in principle to a one-year contract with free agent Justin Duchscherer.
According to Crasnick, the contract would be worth $5.5 million if he reaches specific incentives. It's a minor upset to see Duchscherer stay in Oakland, as many big-market teams were rumored to have interest in the 32-year-old right-hander. Duchscherer missed the entire 2009 season due to injury and clinical depression, but his body of work suggests an excellent chance at a rebound.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the A's are "optimistic" about coming to an agreement with free agent Justin Duchscherer.
Duchscherer reportedly has three offers on the table and is weighing each situation. The 32-year-old missed all of the 2009 season while dealing with injuries and clinical depression but posted a 10-8 record with a 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 22 starts in 2008. He's drawn interest from several clubs this winter who view him as a low-risk, high-reward type of signing.
