According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Marco Scutaro turned down a more lucrative offer from the A's when he signed with the Red Sox.
Scutaro inked a two-year deal with Boston on Friday that contains $12.5 million in guaranteed money and another $3-6 million in option money for 2012. Oakland offered him "slightly" more, according to Rosenthal's sources, but the 34-year-old shortstop liked the idea of playing in Boston and for a contender.

Red Sox signed shortstop Marco Scutaro to a two-year, $12.5 million contract with an option for 2012.
The agreement for 2012 will either function as a $6 million club option, a $3 million player option or a $1.5 million buyout. Scutaro will be given a $1 million signing bonus when he puts pen to paper and a base salary of $5 million in both 2010 and 2011. The Red Sox are hoping he can equal or top his career stats from 2009 -- a .282/.379/.409 batting line, 12 homers, 60 RBI and 100 runs scored -- but it's unlikely given his age (34) and career batting line of .265/.337/.384. He's expected to hit ninth in Boston's lineup.

According to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, Marco Scutaro's deal with the Red Sox is for two years and carries an option for a third.
The Red Sox were smart enough to keep things on a short-term basis with the 34-year-old shortstop. Scutaro posted excellent numbers in 2009 -- a .282/.379/.409 batting line, 12 homers, 60 RBI and 100 runs scored -- but some type of regression should be expected. After all, he's a .265/.337/.384 career hitter, even with the '09 stats factored in. The deal will be finalized Friday morning with a physical and a press conference.

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse has confirmed that the Red Sox have reached agreement on a deal with shortstop Marco Scutaro.
Lider, a news service in Venezuela, first broke the story. No financial details have yet been released and the deal is pending a physical, but the negotiations are all but finished. The Red Sox will hope the 34-year-old Scutaro can match or improve upon the career-highs he posted in 2009 -- a .282/.379/.409 batting line, 12 homers, 60 RBI and 100 runs scored.

Sources close to Marco Scutaro told Venezuela-based Lider that the free agent has agreed to terms with the Red Sox.
Be very, very skeptical for now. The Red Sox and Scutaro are almost certainly talking, but none of the multitude of Red Sox sources have reported that a deal is done or close or even that money has been discussed.
