Red Sox acquired infielder-outfielder Bill Hall and a player to be named later from the Mariners for first baseman Casey Kotchman.
Major league GMs keep playing hot potato with Hall. The 30-year-old batted just .201/.258/.338 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 334 at-bats between the Brewers and Mariners last season. Boasting an 810 career OPS against lefties and with an ability to play a variety of positions on the diamond, the Red Sox will attempt to find a niche for him as a utility man. It's a small risk to take since the Brewers will be responsible for $7.15 million of Hall's $8.4 million salary for 2009.

The Red Sox will acquire Bill Hall from the Mariners in exchange for Casey Kotchman, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
This will be Hall's third organization in the space of one year. He didn't fare much better in the American League after coming over from the Brewers, batting .200/.244/.333 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 120 at-bats, but is right-handed and can play a variety of positions on the diamond. He's slated to make $8.4 million next season, but Boston won't take much of a salary hit if Seattle includes the cash they received from Milwaukee last summer.

Bill Hall returned to action on Thursday and hit a solo homer against the White Sox.
Hall didn't play Wednesday because of a right quad cramp.

Bill Hall (right quadriceps cramp) is out of Wednesday's lineup.
He sustained the injury running down the first-base line on Tuesday. "I thought he'd be able to play but he feels some soreness and we just feel it's probably better to give him a day [off]. We'll re-evaluate him tomorrow," manager Don Wakamatsu said.

Bill Hall went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer as a Mariner in Thursday's 7-4 win over the A's.
Hall's homer was a two-run shot off Brett Tomko. He's hit .256/.306/.419 with eight RBI in 43 at-bats since being acquired from the Brewers. It's definite progress from where he was in the National League.

Bill Hall hit a go-ahead RBI double in a 3-0 win over the Angels on Wednesday night.
The two teams entered the seventh inning deadlocked in a scoreless tie, but Hall slugged a one-out double to chase Scott Kazmir from the game. Hall is batting .231 with six RBI in 39 at-bats since joining the Mariners in August. He's likely to find most of his playing time in the outfield now that Adrian Beltre is back.
