 Francisco Rodriguez-R- MetsSep. 30 - 7:54 pm et
Francisco Rodriguez blew his seventh save of the year by giving up five runs, including a walkoff grand slam, in the ninth Wednesday against the Nationals.
Just a complete waste of money. Even though his average against has stuck right around the Mendoza Line, K-Rod has given up 34 runs in 67 2/3 innings this season, making him a thoroughly mediocre pitcher. Not that it'd be the difference in their playoff chances, but the Mets would have saved $8 million this season and probably won another three or four games had they forgotten K-Rod and just kept Darren O'Day.

 Francisco Rodriguez-R - Mets Sep. 17 - 1:01 am et

Francisco Rodriguez failed to convert a save opportunity against the Braves on Wednesday night.
The season is all but over for the Mets, but they keep inventing new ways to lose. Rodriguez allowed a leadoff double to Garret Anderson, then hit Brian McCann. After Yunel Escobar sacrificed pinch-runner Reid Gorecki over to third and pinch-runner David Ross to second, K-Rod intentionally walked Adam LaRoche to get to Omar Infante. Infante hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. It looked like Rodriguez would actually make it out of the inning with the score tied, but the misadventures of Daniel Murphy continued, as he made a brutal error on an in-between hop that allowed the winning run to score. Rodriguez has a 5.66 ERA and three blown saves since the All-Star break.

Francisco Rodriguez is unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Braves as his wife gave birth to twins on Monday.
Rodriguez is expected to return to the team on Wednesday. K-Rod has a 3.03 ERA and 31 saves in 36 opportunities this season, but he has just eight saves and a 5.49 ERA since the All-Star break.

Francisco Rodriguez has been dealing with "bouts of cramps" in his left quadriceps muscle, according to the New York Daily News.
The cramps creeped up on him Sunday, but he was able to stay in the contest and collect his 30th save. Somewhere down the line, though, he may require a couple days of rest. Pedro Feliciano is becoming more than a lefty specialist, and could be asked to fill in.

Mets manager Jerry Manuel brushed off concerns about Francisco Rodriguez in a chat with reporters Saturday.
K-Rod blew his second consecutive save Friday. "He'll be a guy who will do this for years to come," Manuel said of Rodriguez. "It's just a little bump in the road for him, and I don't anticipate this being something that will continue for him. He's just been at a level too high for that to continue."

 Brian Bruney-R - Nationals Jun. 15 - 11:18 am et

Brian Bruney apologized Sunday evening for his remarks against Francisco Rodriguez that nearly lead to an on-field scuffle.
"He had some things he wanted to say and we’ll leave it at that," Bruney said. "Obviously, I probably shouldn’t have said what I said. I made that mistake and I’ve learned from it. ... I’ve heard he’s a good dude. I’m sure he is. It really wasn’t meant to be a personal attack. This is my apology to him." We can only hope this saga has reached its conclusion.
