The Yankees are "quietly" letting teams know that Nick Swisher is available, says Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Swisher is owed $15.75 million over the next two seasons, with a $10.25 club option for 2012, a pretty reasonable contract considering what he was worth in 2009. The 28-year-old outfielder batted .249/.371/.498 with 29 homers, 89 RBI with a career-high .869 OPS. Remember, the Yankees dangled Swisher in trade talks after acquiring him last winter, so it's no surprise to see his name come up again. We're a long way from seeing him being dealt, but the Yankees could have a say in Matt Holliday or Jason Bay after all.

Nick Swisher, benched in Game 2, homered and doubled Saturday as the Yankees beat the Phillies 8-5 to take a 2-1 lead in the World Series.
Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui also went deep for the bombers. A-Rod's shot, which bounced off a camera above the right field wall, was the first call overturned on replay in World Series history. The Phillies got two homers from Jayson Werth and one from Carlos Ruiz, but they were all solo shots. Now they're staring a 3-1 deficit in the face with CC Sabathia and Joe Blanton set to face off on Sunday.

Nick Swisher is back in the lineup for Game 3 of the World Series.
He'll bat seventh against Cole Hamels. Swisher was benched in favor of Jerry Hairston Jr against Pedro Martinez in Game 2. He is just 4-for-35 (.114) with one RBI during the postseason.

 Hideki Matsui-DH - Angels Oct. 31 - 9:46 am et

Hideki Matsui will be on the bench to start Game 3.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi is handing left-field duties to Johnny Damon, which rules Matsui out. "We'll use him in a role to pinch hit when we feel that he can be most valuable to us," Girardi said. "It might be a situation where you might think about a double switch, but you don't want to lose his bat." The starter in right field is unknown, but given that a lefty will be on the mound, it makes sense for Nick Swisher to draw the nod.

 Hideki Matsui-DH - Angels Oct. 30 - 9:52 am et

Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated Thursday that he's considering using Hideki Matsui in the outfield while the series is in Philadelphia.
Matsui has two bad knees and didn't play a single game in the outfield during the regular season. "We'll see how he's doing," said Girardi. "We'll have to see. We'll make a decision when we get there. We have all day to think about it [during Friday's off-day.]" Matsui is 3-for-6 with a homer and walk so far in the fall classic. With the series tied, it'd be tough to drop him from the lineup.

Nick Swisher has been benched in favor of Jerry Hairston Jr. for Game 2 of the World Series.
Hairston is 10-for-27 (.370) lifetime against Phillies starter Pedro Martinez and Swisher is 11 for his last 77 (.143) with one homer dating back to the regular season. Of course, it's also worth noting that Hairston hasn't faced Pedro since 2004 and hasn't started in right field since joining the Yankees.
