Cameron Maybin underwent successful shoulder surgery on Monday.
The procedure repaired a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. Maybin, 22, is expected to be fine by the start of spring training and will, in all likelihood, open the 2010 season as the Marlins' starting center fielder.

Cameron Maybin is scheduled to undergo surgery this weekend to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Maybin first began experiencing discomfort in his shoulder in late August but was able to play through the pain. He finished the season strong, going 22-for-78 in September and 5-for-14 in October, and is expected to open the 2010 season as the Marlins' starting center fielder. The procedure is fairly minor and should not deter those plans whatsoever.

Cameron Maybin was 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored in a win over the Phillies on Friday night.
It was his third straight multi-hit game and his first four-hit game since last September. Maybin is batting .313 with with three homers and 10 RBI in 83 at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A New Orleans on August 31. He should slot in as the team's starting center fielder in 2010, flanked by Chris Coghlan in left and Cody Ross in right.

Cameron Maybin launched a three-run homer in the fifth inning Saturday evening as the Marlins topped the Mets 9-6.
Maybin entered the game as a replacement for Cody Ross, who injured himself in the fourth inning. Maybin's homer came in the middle of a seven-run fifth that put a dagger into the uninspired Mets. He could see an uptick in playing time over the next few days.

Cody Ross left in the fourth inning Saturday evening after getting nailed on the left hand by a pitch.
X-rays were negative and the Marlins are terming the injury a "left wrist contusion." Cameron Maybin replaced him in center field against the Mets.

Jeremy Hermida (oblique) might not return before the end of the season.
He suffered a right oblique strain on September 2 and hasn't engaged in baseball-related activities since. "We've done as much as we can for it. It's unfortunately one of those injuries you can't really rush," Hermida said Thursday. "Unfortunately with an oblique, when you run, you feel it. When you swing a bat, you feel it." Cameron Maybin has already benefited from the absence and will continue to draw starts in center field.
