Indians signed IF Luis Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
He also gets a spring training invite. Rodriguez recently opted for free agency after turning down an outright assignment from the Padres. The 29-year-old infielder batted .202/.319/.260 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 208 at-bats with San Diego in 2009.

Luis Rodriguez has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Portland.
Rodriguez, 29, hit .202/.319/.260 with two homers and 16 RBI in 208 at-bats this year, playing shortstop and second base. Rodriguez is a .243 hitter over parts of five major league seasons between the Padres and Twins.

Luis Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in a win over the Nationals on Friday night.
Rodriguez hasn't hit against anybody else this season, but he teed off against Garrett Mock on Friday, launching a solo home run in the fourth and driving in two with a single in the sixth. He's batting just .203 this season, so don't consider him for your fantasy squad.

Padres activated SS Luis Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list.
Rodriguez has been out for about a month with a sprained ankle. Neither Chris Burke nor Josh Wilson excelled in Rodriguez's absence, and he should resume his role as regular shortstop.

Padres placed shortstop Luis Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 14, with a sprained left ankle.
While x-rays revealed no breaks, sprained ankles are usually worse than a broken ankle and may be out for a significant amount of time. Chris Burke will play short in his place; he was 0-for-3 with one RBI in his first game as a replacement Thursday and is batting just .226 on the season. He will be challenged for playing time by Josh Wilson, who was plucked from the waiver wire Friday.
