James Shields yielded three runs over eight innings in a 5-3 win over the Orioles on Wednesday night.
Though his season has to be considered a disappointment, Shields went out on a high note. He scattered six hits, including a two-run homer, while striking out eight and walking none. His year comes to a close at 11-12 with a 4.14 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 167/52 K/BB ratio in a career-high 219 2/3 innings, spanning 33 starts. While he's no ace, Shields is a legitimate top-of-the-rotation pitcher.

James Shields was knocked around for five runs over seven innings in an 8-3 loss to the Rangers on Friday night.
Laboring early on, Shields gave up a two-run double to Marlon Byrd in the first, followed by a solo homer by Chris Davis in the second, putting him in an early 3-0 hole. He went on to allow seven hits against seven strikeouts and two walks, falling to 10-12 on the year. Shields has been a real workhorse for the Rays this season, logging 211 2/3 innings (sixth in the AL). He can reach a new career-high during his final start against the Orioles next week.

James Shields surrendered four runs over six innings in an 11-4 win over the Blue Jays on Friday night.
Shields actually trailed 2-0 before his offense exploded for six runs in the top of the third inning. All told, Shields scattered nine hits against seven strikeouts, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. His first win of the month, Shields improved to 10-11 with a 4.09 ERA in 31 starts this season.

James Shields dropped to 9-11 after giving up three runs in six innings against the Red Sox on Sunday.
The last two runs could have been unearned, but Jason Varitek was given credit for a two-run single on a grounder that skipped past first baseman Willy Aybar. Shields allowed six hits, walked three and struck out six in the solid outing.

Thursday's game between the Rays and Red Sox at Fenway Park has been postponed due to rain.
It will be made up with a doubleheader on Sunday. Lester didn't throw many pitches and will start the night game Sunday. Tampa Bay's James Shields threw none, but the Rays will keep their starters on regular rest and have him oppose Lester.

James Shields yielded three runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 7-3 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
It was just his second victory in his last 12 starts. Shields scattered eight hits -- including a pair of solo homers -- while striking out five and walking two. He induced 10 groundballs, improving to 8-10 on the year. He'll bring a 3.81 ERA into a matchup against the Tigers on Sunday.
