Tim Lincecum told Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News that he won't let an arbitration hearing with the Giants turn into a "grudge match."
"I'm just trying to keep an open mind," said Lincecum. "If anybody knows my flaws, I do. If they're going to point them out and that has to happen, then whatever. I know I've got to get better. I don't feel like my feelings are hurt." The two-time Cy Young Award winner asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were disclosed in January. With such unprecedented success for a first-time arbitration-eligible starting pitcher, Baggarly speculates that the Giants could possibly bring up Lincecum's marijuana citation. It would be a low blow, but the 25-year-old acknowledges that the incident made him realize it's time for him to "grow up." According to the report, if an agreement cannot be reached, the hearing will be held sometime between February 10-15.

Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com reports that talks between the Giants and Tim Lincecum aren't going well.
Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. They already appear destined for a hearing, one that Lincecum will surely win, but multiple sources have told Urban that San Francisco's young ace has dismissed several two-year deals from the club. Proposing a two-year deal is telling, not only because he will have two more years of arbitration after the contract, but it may play into concerns about his durability. That's pretty much the only leg the Giants have to stand on when a pitcher wins consecutive Cy Young awards, but this could get more contentious than they would have hoped.

Tim Lincecum is likely headed to an arbitration hearing with the Giants in order to determine his 2010 salary.
Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged two weeks ago. Little progress has been made toward a compromise. "I think that's the direction (a hearing) they've wanted this to go from Day 1," said the ace's agent, Rick Thurman, "simply because there's been little or no discussions with regards to a contract."

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Tim Lincecum filed for $13 million in arbitration on Tuesday while the Giants submitted $8 million.
Some were suggesting upwards of $20 million, so while it doesn't reach quite that high, Lincecum stands a good chance of topping Ryan Howard's previous record of $10 million with his first season of arbitration. It's hard to argue against consecutive National League Cy Young awards.

Tim Lincecum, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, will pursue a one-year contract, according to his agent Rick Thurman.
"As of today, we'll pursue a one-year deal," Thurman said. After being named the NL Cy Young in consecutive seasons, Lincecum will surely shatter Ryan Howard's previous record of $10 million in his first season of arbitration in 2008. While setting a new bar for arbitration-eligible players will please the players' union, it's a calculated risk on Lincecum's part should he suffer a serious arm injury at some point in the near future.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports wonders if Tim Lincecum could command $23 million in salary arbitration this February.
As Brown notes, MLB's arbitration system has never processed a player like Lincecum. He's already highly decorated (with back-to-back Cy Young Awards) and posted some incredible stats in 2009 while earning just over $600,000. Ryan Howard was granted $10 million on his first trek through arbitration, but his value pales in comparison to Lincecum. Perhaps the Giants would be better off inking their young ace to a contract extension before arbitration hearings get underway in February.
