 Chris Coghlan-OF- MarlinsNov. 16 - 2:21 pm et
Chris Coghlan won the National League Rookie of the Year award.
This a mild surprise, because of the competition Coghlan had for the award. He beat out J.A. Happ, Tommy Hanson and Andrew McCutchen. Our ballot would have given preference to Happ and McCutchen. Regardless, Coghlan was excellent in his debut campaign, hitting .321/.390/.460 in 565 plate appearances with 84 runs scored, 31 doubles, and nine steals in 128 games.
 Joe Blanton-S - Phillies Oct. 17 - 6:03 pm et

Phillies manager announced Saturday that Joe Blanton will start Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers.
The move allows J.A. Happ, the other possible candidate for the start, to remain in the bullpen. Blanton went 12-8 with a 4.05 ERA and a career-high 163 strikeouts over 195 1/3 innings during the regular season. "He's got basically four pitches," Manuel said Saturday, "and he throws a fastball, curveball, slider, changeup, and his fastball sinks when he gets it down. And I think that he's a good fit." The best-of-seven series is tied 1-1.

 Joe Blanton-S - Phillies Oct. 17 - 8:25 am et

Joe Blanton is expected to draw the Game 4 start for Philadelphia.
The choice was always either J.A. Happ or Joe Blanton, and Happ has pitched in both games of the NLCS so far. It makes Blanton the obvious candidate, although manager Charlie Manuel has refused to announce the starter yet.

 Pedro Martinez-S - Phillies Oct. 14 - 8:56 pm et

Pedro Martinez may start Game 2 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, speculates Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
With Charlie Manuel announcing that Joe Blanton and J.A. Happ would be available out of the bullpen in Games 1 and 2, Cole Hamels starting Game 1 and Cliff Lee likely being slotted into the Game 3 start, Martinez appears to be the choice for Game 2. "I hope I (pitch)," Martinez said. "I'm open to do whatever. ... It would be special to be able to be part of any game. The playoffs are big. For a person like me, I am not going to get too overexcited, but I still have the same respect for the game and I acknowledge the fact that it's a playoff game and a great opportunity."

 J.A. Happ-S - Phillies Oct. 10 - 2:47 pm et

J.A. Happ will start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Rockies on Sunday night.
It appears that Pedro Martinez will have to wait until the NLCS to make an appearance. Using Happ certainly favors the Phillies against the lefty-heavy Rockies. Happ looks to be fully recovered from taking a liner off the right shin during Thursday's Game 2.

 J.A. Happ-S - Phillies Oct. 10 - 12:17 pm et

The Phillies/Rockies game Saturday has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The news means that J.A. Happ is likely to start Game 3 when it is played Sunday at 10:07 ET. Cliff Lee is likely to draw the Game 4 start which will be played on Monday, originally a travel day. Pedro Martinez will have to wait for the NLCS, if Philly makes it, to make his postseason appearance.
