Jesus Guzman has cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Fresno.
The Giants designated Guzman for assignment in late January in order to clear room for the re-signing of veteran catcher Bengie Molina. Guzman, 25, made just 20 major league at-bats last season.

The move clears the way for catcher Bengie Molina's glorious return to San Francisco's 40-man roster. Guzman, 25, made just 20 at-bats last season and tallied only five hits. His youth should land him a job elsewhere but the infielder is far from ready to make an impact on the major league level.

Giants recalled infielder Jesus Guzman from Triple-A Fresno.
His excellent line in the minors failed to translate in two stints with the Giants earlier this season, as he batted just .133 in 15 at-bats. Since he's such a liability in the field, the 25-year-old will likely function primarily as a pinch-hitter.

Guzman spent four days in the big leagues this time around and finished 1-for-5 with a strikeout. His absence clears a roster spot for new guy Freddy Sanchez.

With the acquisition of Ryan Garko, it's doubtful Guzman will find plentiful playing time with the Giants. He went 1-for-10 during his last trip through the major leagues and carries no fantasy value.

Guzman didn't get much of an extended audition, going just 1-for-10 in his four games with the Giants. If not for Pablo Sandoval's elbow injury, he'd likely be staying in San Francisco. As it is, Sandoval is slated for time at first base, which would have left scant playing time for Guzman.
