Pablo Sandoval has returned to Venezuela to participate in Game 7 of the country's winter league championship.
Sandoval spent several weeks this winter down in Venezuela, playing for Magallanes. He was summoned back to the states this week but the Giants have granted him permission to return and help his team in one of the country's biggest sporting events. Let's all hope he doesn't get hurt.

Pablo Sandoval still has about 12 pounds to lose this winter.
The Giants will ask Sandoval to return from winter ball this week in order to jump back on his designed conditioning program. The 23-year-old is expected to bat third in San Francisco's batting order now that Aubrey Huff and Mark DeRosa have been added to the mix. "Kung Fu Panda," as Giants fans call him, hit an impressive .330/.387/.556 in 2009 with 25 homers, 44 doubles, 90 RBI and only 68 strikeouts in 572 at-bats last season.

 Juan Uribe-SS - Giants Jan. 6 - 9:28 am et

Giants general manager Brian Sabean indicated Tuesday that Juan Uribe could start at third base next season for the club.
In that scenario, Pablo Sandoval would slide to first base and newly inked utilityman Mark DeRosa would move to left field. Uribe, 30, just signed a fresh one-year, $3.25 million contract. He hit .289/.329/.495 with 16 home runs and 55 RBI last season and the Giants would love to keep his bat in the everyday lineup. "We've got till opening day to figure this out," Sabean said.

 Mark DeRosa-3B - Giants Dec. 28 - 2:20 pm et

Mark DeRosa is close to accepting a two-year deal from the Giants, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
It has been rumored that the Giants offered DeRosa a two-year, $12 million contract. Assuming Rosenthal's report is correct and he signs with San Francisco, DeRosa would step into a full-time gig, likely at third base, with Pablo Sandoval making the switch across the diamond to first base, where he'll be less of a defensive liability long-term. DeRosa, 34, would also be used as a "super-utility man," according to Rosenthal, filling in around the diamond as the Giants see fit. He batted .250/.319/.433 with 23 homers, 23 doubles and 78 RBI this past season.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean revealed Monday that Pablo Sandoval will bat cleanup for the club in 2010.
That should give his fantasy draft ranking a nice little boost. The 23-year-old infielder hit an impressive .330/.387/.556 in 2009 with 25 homers, 44 doubles, 90 RBI and only 68 strikeouts in 572 at-bats. He's a .416/.485/.652 hitter in 101 career at-bats out of the cleanup spot.

Giants hired Hensley Meulens as hitting coach.
The Giants cut ties with Carney Lansford a few weeks ago after posting the second-fewest homers (112) and drawing the fewest walks in the majors (392) during the '09 season. Meulens, a 42-year-old former MLB utilityman, had been serving as a hitting instructor on the Triple-A level.
