 Tedy Bruschi-LB- PatriotsAug. 30 - 11:07 pm et
Patriots inside linebacker Tedy Bruschi has decided to retire from football.
He'll make the announcement Monday at 10:45AM ET (Bruschi -- barely sleeps in on retirement day). A 13-year career Patriot, Bruschi captained three Super Bowl winners, registered five 100+ tackle seasons, and was a Pro Bowler in 2004. The former college defensive end played inside linebacker, outside, and end in pass-rush situations throughout his career. His October return from an offseason stroke earned him Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2005. Bruschi will likely fall short of the Hall of Fame, but is a shoe-in for the Patriots' Ring of Honor and may have his No. 54 retired.

Al Michaels said on NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast that Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi plans to announce his retirement.
The Patriots confirmed that they'll hold a "special announcement" on Monday. The 36-year-old career Pat has declined sharply over the last three seasons and recently lost his starting job to second-year former undrafted free agent Gary Guyton. Bruschi was scheduled to earn $1.9 million in 2009. If he hangs 'em up, the Patriots will be off the hook for that money.

Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi says he's willing to accept a non-starting role this season.
Bruschi played with the second team against the Bengals last week, with Gary Guyton starting inside next to Jerod Mayo. It's a good move for the Pats defense as Bruschi has lost more than a step over the past few seasons.

 Gary Guyton-LB - Patriots Aug. 21 - 12:02 pm et

In Thursday night's preseason game, Gary Guyton started next to Jerod Mayo at inside linebacker as the Patriots opened in a 3-4 set.
This is only interesting because that's normally Tedy Bruschi's role. Bruschi did play last night even though the 36-year-old just got back to practice this week after being out since July 31. His role for this season remains unclear.

 Tedy Bruschi-LB - Patriots Jun. 23 - 9:13 am et

Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi remains undecided about playing beyond 2009.
The 14-year veteran has been limited to first and second downs the past couple of years. An important leader for the Pats, Bruschi prefers to keep his future options open.

 Paris Lenon-LB - Rams May. 27 - 8:23 am et

Patriots agreed to terms with LB Paris Lenon.
The Pats were short on quality depth at inside linebacker after releasing Bo Ruud and losing third-rounder Tyrone McKenzie to a torn ACL. The Lions' leading tackler last season, Lenon will be making the switch to a 3-4 scheme. Ostensibly the top backup inside, the 31-year-old could eventually push Tedy Bruschi and Gary Guyton for playing time next to Jerod Mayo.
