Falcons MLB Curtis Lofton is currently leading the NFL in tackles.
He has 84 (10.5/game); six more than No. 2 tackler Brian Cushing. Lofton has capitalized on his increased duties this season, evolving into a three-down linebacker. He also has two forced fumbles and two pass breakups.

Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder confirmed that MLB Curtis Lofton will be a three-down player this season.
Lofton has shed eight pounds to improve his coverage skills. He'll see more big-play opportunities in the nickel package and could flirt with top-ten IDP linebacker numbers. He had 94 tackles as a two-down player last year.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said the team will give MLB Curtis Lofton the chance to be a three-down linebacker in the wake of Keith Brooking's departure.
"We felt very good about what Curtis Lofton was able to do as a rookie for us and start in our base package," Smith said earlier this week at the NFL owners meeting. "Curtis is going to get an opportunity to be a three-down player this season." If that proves to be the case it would be a nice boost to his IDP value.

Falcons MLB Curtis Lofton may take over playcalling duties on defense in 2009.
Keith Brooking wore the defensive headset last year, but he may be cut. After only playing on early downs as a rookie, Lofton should be ready for a full-time job. His IDP value would increase greatly as an every-down 'backer.
