Chiefs coach Todd Haley hinted that Branden Albert's future could be at a position other than left tackle.
Albert allowed the fifth most sacks (9) in the NFL after Haley made him slim down in the 2009 offseason. He was a college guard, but we'd still bet Albert stays on Matt Cassel's blind side in 2010. He has rare athleticism, size, and finished the season strong, allowing no sacks in the final three games.

Matt Cassel was sacked just eight times in the Chiefs' last six games, compared to 37 times in the first 10.
Jamaal Charles also averaged 6.0 YPC in the final eight contests. K.C. will add talent to its offensive line for 2010, but found a potential building block in RT Ryan O'Callaghan to go with LT Branden Albert and LG Brian Waters. The nucleus will gain some valuable continuity with a full offseason together.

Chiefs LT Branden Albert's nine sacks allowed are second most in the NFL, behind only Raiders LT Mario Henderson's 9 1/2.
Albert also has eight combined holding and illegal-procedure penalties. The 2008 first-round pick began the season as one of the few bright spots on offense and a presumed building block for the young Chiefs. Coach Todd Haley called Albert's 2009 performance an adjustment period after losing nearly 40 pounds. Albert says it's been a "humbling experience."

Chiefs LT Branden Albert returned to the starting lineup in Week 9 after missing two games with an ankle injury.
Albert's return gives the Chiefs a big boost, who did average 4.3 yards per carry as a team Sunday. With center Rudy Niswanger also healthy, the line at least healthy but is still terrible.

Chiefs LT Branden Albert (ankle) is expected to practice during the bye week and be available for the Week 9 game against the Jaguars.
Albert has been out since Week 5 and the Chiefs have missed him sorely. Wade Smith filled in, but he now may be needed to play center with Rudy Niswanger (knee) out.

Chiefs have declared LT Branden Albert, CB Donald Washington, S Jarrad Page, WR Bobby Engram, TE Jake O'Connell, TE Brad Cottam, and LB Pierre Walters inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Albert is dealing with an ankle injury, so Wade Smith will start in his place for the second straight week. Page is a healthy scratch after Jon McGraw took his starting spot from him this week.
