Oct. 4 - 3:47 pm et
Magglio Ordonez went 4-for-4 with a home run against the White Sox on Sunday.
In addition to his solo shot Ordonez doubled once and singled twice. Ordonez finished strong with a .401 average since the start of August, but even when he was hot the power simply wasn't there as he had just three homers during that stretch and an amazingly low eight in 460 at-bats for the season. He'll turn 36 this off-season, and while some dead-cat bounce is possible, his days as an elite outfielder look over.

Magglio Ordonez was 2-for-3 with a three-run double in a win over the Twins on Wednesday night, as the Tigers pushed their league back to three games.
It was the biggest hit of the game and perhaps the biggest hit of the Tigers' season. Ordonez put the game out of reach with his three-run double in the fifth. After failing to notch a multi-RBI game since July 21, Ordonez has done it in back-to-back games. He's batting .410 this month. The Tigers now have a three-game lead with four to go.

Magglio Ordonez drove in two runs as the Tigers took the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Twins.
Ordonez delivered with a huge two-out, two-run double off starter Brian Duensing in the third to give the Tigers an early 3-0 advantage. With one swing, it was his first multi-RBI game since July 21 against the Mariners.

Magglio Ordonez is in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Twins.
Ordonez sat out the first game. In addition to Ordonez, Adam Everett will play shortstop with Ryan Raburn in left field and Marcus Thames as designated hitter against the southpaw Brian Duensing.

Magglio Ordonez is getting the night off against Indians' right-hander Justin Masterson on Wednesday.
Masterson has been far more effective against right-handers this year, which explains manager Jim Leyland's logic in giving left-handed-hitting Clete Thomas the start in right.

Magglio Ordonez was 0-for-3 with a strikeout in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday night.
Why is this significant? Because Ordonez's $18 million dollar option vested for 2010, that's why. It should greatly reduce the Tigers payroll flexibility during the offseason. Though Ordonez is batting .357 since the All-Star break, he has just three home runs and 12 RBI in 143 at-bats.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that Magglio Ordonez will reach the plate appearances required for his 2010 option to vest.
Not the best economic decision, as Ordonez will be paid $18 million next year. Making it particularly hard to stomach is Ordonez's mediocre .294/.365/.404 line in 449 plate appearances. Included in those numbers are only seven homers and 40 RBI. Ordonez needs only eight plate appearances for the option to vest.

Magglio Ordonez was 3-for-4 with an RBI in a win over the Indians on Wednesday night.
Ordonez is now hitting .368 with two homers and eight RBI over his last 24 games. Now batting .281, his batting average is at it's highest point since early June. Because they've struggled so much offensively, it looks like the Tigers will have to continue running him out there, even if it makes his option for 2010 a certainty.

Magglio Ordonez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple in a loss to the Red Sox on Monday night.
It's very encouraging to see some power from Mags, who entered tonight's contest with a disappointing .365 slugging percentage. He's hitting .406 in eight August games and the Tigers could really benefit from a strong finish by Ordonez as they try to remain atop the AL Central.

Magglio Ordonez was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in a win over the Orioles on Wednesday night.
Jim Leyland is starting to grant Ordonez more regular at-bats against right-handers and he is beginning to have some more success as a result. Believe it or not, tonight was the first time he has strung together consecutive multi-hit games this season.

Magglio Ordonez hit a grand slam in a win over the Mariners on Tuesday.
The grand slam was the big blow in a five-run first inning against starter Garrett Olson. Believe it or not, Ordonez doubled his offensive output for the month with just one swing. He still owns a poor .357 slugging percentage.

Magglio Ordonez collected his first hit since July 5th, going 1-for-3 in Friday's win over the Indians.
Ordonez later left the game in favor of his new platoon mate, Clete Thomas. Thomas doubled off Joe Smith, so the platoon worked for at least this day. Ordonez has a long way to go before he becomes a fantasy option again.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland plans to platoon right-hander Magglio Ordonez and left-hander Clete Thomas in right field.
"We'll see how it turns out," Leyland said Wednesday. "I'm trying to see if we can get a combination to spark more offense." Ordonez is batting just .260 with four home runs and 28 RBI this season. Being held out of the lineup every other day won't help those numbers rise quickly.

Magglio Ordonez finished 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Saturday in his return to the starting lineup.
Ordonez was benched a couple days this week after suffering through a 2-for-20 stretch. He has the talent and the power to get back on track, but as of now is still batting just .266 with four home runs and 28 RBI. With those numbers, at least he won't be asked to expend any energy in the All-Star game. We'll hope for a big second half.

Magglio Ordonez was benched again Friday.
Ordonez is 2-for-20 over the past five games and it seems his benching a few weeks back hasn't helped him at all. He can no longer be considered an everyday player, as he will sit at least once or twice a week until he snaps out of his season-long slump, which may not happen anytime soon.

Magglio Ordonez went 0-for-4 on Wednesday to finish the series against the A's 2-for-12.
Ordonez is 2-for-20 with no RBI since his homer last Thursday. He'll probably find himself back on the bench at least once and probably twice during the upcoming series against the Twins.

Magglio Ordonez returned to the Tigers' starting lineup Tuesday.
Ordonez was benched indefinitely by manager Jim Leyland last Thursday. He didn't appear as a defensive replacement or pinch-hitter; Leyland simply wanted his star outfielder to "get away from it" all for little while. We hope it helps. Ordonez was batting .273/.347/.343.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland is debating whether to return Magglio Ordonez to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Cubs.
Chicago is starting ace right-hander Carlos Zambrano. "The one thing is, it's going to be a pretty tough pitcher to come back against, so I'm thinking about that," Leyland said. "Somewhere along the line, my gut just has to take over, to play him Tuesday or wait another day or two." Ordonez was benched indefinitely last week for performance-based reasons. He's carrying a .273/.347/.343 batting line.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Saturday that Magglio Ordonez could return to the starting lineup as early as Tuesday.
That would give the struggling outfielder five days of rest. Leyland also had some strong words for Scott Boras, following some questionable comments by the agent the other night: "Scott Boras might be better off if he leaves Magglio Ordonez and myself to handle this instead of him, because Magglio Ordonez will be back in the lineup."
