Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that there haven't been any new discussions between the Diamondbacks and the Mets regarding catcher Chris Snyder.
Bengie Molina took a lesser offer to return to San Francisco, leaving the Mets with the internal options of Omir Santos, Henry Blanco and possibly Josh Thole. There's no question that the 28-year-old Snyder is available -- currently rehabbing from back surgery, he's the clear backup to Miguel Montero and is owed $10.5 million over the next two seasons -- but it's unclear who they would want in return or if they would be willing to eat any of the contract.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that the Mets have interest in Diamondbacks' catcher Chris Snyder.
Sherman notes that the Mets tried to dangle second baseman Luis Castillo in a swap of undesirable contracts, but the Diamondbacks were not receptive to the offer. Still, the Mets remain interested in the 28-year-old catcher. Snyder batted .200/.333/.352 in 2009, but is just one season removed from slugging 16 home runs. He is currently rehabbing from back surgery. The Mets would like to add a more potent option behind the plate if they are unable to land Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. According to Sherman, the Mets are also considering Bengie Molina.

Chris Snyder said Sunday this his rehab from back surgery is going well.
The Blue Jays were in trade talks with the D'Backs for Snyder but called off discussions after meeting with the 28-year-old catcher. He's not sure why. "I'm right where I need to be," Snyder said. "There has not been a setback, there has not been anything freak happen." The Diamondbacks are still hoping to ship him to another team this winter.

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Blue Jays have called off trade talks involving catcher Chris Snyder.
The Jays and D'Backs were reportedly discussing a Lyle Overbay-for-Chris Snyder swap, but concerns about Snyder's back led Toronto to nix the talks Sunday afternoon. It wasn't a great fit anyway because of the $11.25 million remaining on the backstop's current contract.

According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays are "making progress" on a trade that would send Chris Snyder to Toronto and Lyle Overbay to Arizona.
This corroborates an earlier report by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Snyder has become expendable with Miguel Montero's solid season and Overbay would provide some veteran stewardship of first base while Brandon Allen hones his skills at Triple-A Reno. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said he plans to be more active with trades than free agency, and Snyder would certainly fit that bill. Snyder, 28, is younger than impending free agent Rod Barajas, with a better defensive reputation behind the plate.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks are discussing a trade that would send catcher Chris Snyder to the Blue Jays for first baseman Lyle Overbay.
Snyder, 28, has two years and $11.25 million left on his contract while Overbay, 31, has one year and $7 million left on his. Piecoro speculates that the Diamondbacks might want to give top-prospect Brandon Allen some more seasoning at Triple-A Reno. With a solid glove, Overbay would stabilize a position where first base options combined to hit just .229/.321/.398 last season. If no money is exchanged, the Diamondbacks would save $4.25 million over two years. It's hard to believe the Blue Jays like Snyder that much.

The Diamondbacks and Blue Jays are in trade talks for Chris Snyder.
Snyder hit .200/.333/.352 in a scant 165 at-bats during the season, losing his starting gig to Miguel Montero, and having the year marred by injuries. Due $11.25 million through 2011, the 28-year old has a reputation as a great defensive catcher who has a healthy rapport with pitchers. The Jays' top prospect is widely considered to be catcher J.P. Arencibia, so you have to wonder what Toronto is thinking if the rumor is true.

Chris Snyder underwent successful back surgery Wednesday.
Snyder should be ready by spring training. He is owed $11.25 million over the next two years and hit just .200 with six homers this season. That will likely complicate the Diamondbacks' ability to trade him in the offseason.

Chris Snyder is scheduled to undergo back surgery Wednesday.
Snyder should be ready by spring training, but the Diamondbacks were hoping to trade him this offseason and this procedure will really complicate things. On top of his injury-related uncertainty, the catcher is owed $11.25 million over the next two years and hit just .200 with six homers this season.

Diamondbacks placed catcher Chris Snyder on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 26, with lower back inflammation.
Snyder began feeling tightness in his left glute Wednesday night and wasn't able to shake it all week. An MRI of his backside Saturday revealed the inflammation. He could need at least two weeks of rest.

Chris Snyder will undergo an MRI on his left glute Friday.
Snyder spent over a month on the disabled list earlier this season with a ligament strain and a slightly bulging disk in his back. He's worried the two injuries could be connected. The D'Backs are sure to call up a catcher when rosters expand on September 1, but may need to make a move before then.

Chris Snyder indicated Tuesday that he'd be comfortable with a backup role if the Diamondbacks are unable to trade him.
Miguel Montero captured the starting catching gig in Arizona while Snyder was sidelined with a back strain. "Yeah, there are no secrets of what the little guy next to me (in the clubhouse) has been doing while I've been gone," Snyder said. "He's raking. He's been given playing time, and that's what he showed he can do." The D'Backs will look to find sufficient value for him before Friday's deadline.

Chris Snyder was 0-for-1 in his return to action on Tuesday night against the Phillies.
Snyder struck out pinch-hitting for Juan Gutierrez in the eighth inning. He had been out of action since late June due to a back injury. If he's not traded before the Friday deadline, he figures to play a backup role to the hot-hitting Miguel Montero for the rest of the season.

Diamondbacks activated catcher Chris Snyder from the 15-day disabled list.
Snyder no longer owns a starting gig in Arizona and is likely to be dealt before Friday's non-waiver trade deadline. He's batting .224 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 49 games this season.

Chris Snyder (back strain) caught nine innings Monday in a minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno.
Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch suggested Monday night that Snyder could return before this weekend, but upper management is probably working hard on flipping him for a couple of prospects in a trade before Friday's deadline. Miguel Montero now owns the starting backstop role in Arizona and Snyder is capable of holding down a full-time gig.

Chris Snyder (back strain) is expected to make a final rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno on Monday.
It looks like Snyder will return to a backup role, unless the D'Backs can ship him off to another club before the July 31 trade deadline. Miguel Montero has been fantastic in his absence and has earned the starting gig.

Scott Bordow of the East Valley Tribune says to expect Chris Snyder to be a bench player once he returns from the disabled list.
Miguel Montero has been exceptional in Snyder's absence, hitting .339 with seven home runs since Snyder's disabling on June 18. If true, Snyder will play sparingly and be shopped in the off-season. He's in the first year of a three-year, $14.25 million extension. Manager A.J. Hinch said Montero has "staked his claim to significant playing time." If you were hoping for Snyder to provide a boost to your team when he returned, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Chris Snyder (back strain) has begun a minor league rehab assignment.
Snyder made his second rehab start Tuesday with Single-A Visalia and is about a week from returning to the bigs. With Miguel Montero playing so well as of late, it'll be interesting to see how the playing time breaks down when both are on board. A platoon seems likely.

Chris Snyder (lower back strain) performed "a battery" of fielding drills Saturday, according to the Arizona Republic.
"It went good," Snyder said. "I did a few little catching drills, threw to some bases, blocked some balls, fielded some bunts and caught Max (Scherzer's) bullpen (session). Everything held up good. That's a lot more than I've done in a long time." He'll head out on a minor league rehab assignment Monday.
