Former Browns C LeCharles Bentley indicated Wednesday that he's no longer trying to return to the NFL.
"There's still offers out there, but I'm not entertaining anything right now," said Bentley, who underwent countless knee surgeries after tearing his patellar tendon at the first practice of 2007 training camp. "I've lived the NFL dream. I (still) play football every day, I've got three boys. That's what I'm doing now."

Free agent LeCharles Bentley's playing days "appear to be over," according to Browns beat writer Tony Grossi.
Bentley is currently working as a volunteer coach at a Cleveland high school after failing to catch on in training camp despite visits with the Rams and Lions. If this is it for Bentley, 29, he'll finish his career with 57 starts, two Pro Bowls, and one knee that was surgically repaired several times over.

LeCharles Bentley left St. Louis without a contract Tuesday after taking a physical with the Rams.
The Rams are desperate for offensive line help, so this is a pretty strong signal that Bentley isn't even close to full strength after missing two years with injuries.

Free agent C LeCharles Bentley will visit the Rams Monday to take a physical.
The former Saint and Brown also met with the Lions, but didn't sign there. Bentley's health is a huge question mark, and he seems to have higher financial demands than his situation allows. The Rams might be the one team desperate enough to take the risk.

The Lions hosted free agent C/G LeCharles Bentley on Tuesday.
A "source close to the situation" says the visit was good, but Bentley was unwilling to sign the Lions' offer of one year at around $1 million. Bentley, like Daunte Culpepper, is holding out for more money in a plum situation.

The player rep for free agent C/G LeCharles Bentley continues to say that his client is receiving "a lot of interest" on the open market.
As if he'd say anything else. "We're sifting through different offers," the agent said. Bentley has undergone several knee surgeries since tearing his patellar tendon, then catching a staph infection in 2006. To make more than the minimum in 2008, he may need a desperate team to come calling.

Ten teams have reportedly contacted LeCharles Bentley since he was released.
Most are probably just gathering medical information. He will get a job, but we doubt he'll get a big contract.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports free agent OL LeCharles Bentley would prefer to play guard for his next team.
It's surprising Bentley is already being choosy. He's coming off a bunch of knee surgeries and was apparently timed in the 7s when the Browns asked him to run forties for his physical. He should be willing to play wherever.

Browns released OL LeCharles Bentley.
Bentley asked for his release and he got it. "LeCharles doesn't want to be an insurance policy," said Bentley's agent. "He's going to play somewhere in 2008." An odd move for one of the biggest free agent busts of the decade. Bentley has barely seen the field in two years, but practiced Tuesday after passing a team physical. We doubt the former Pro Bowler will find a starting job and his health is a huge question mark.

Browns OL LeCharles Bentley skipped a team meeting and the team's mandatory minicamp practice on Wednesday.
Bentley requested a meeting with GM Phil Savage and head coach Romeo Crennel. The reason for Bentley's absence is unknown. "We’ll find out what the situation is," Crennel said. "I’m not going to speculate."

Browns OL LeCharles Bentley (knee surgeries) has been cleared to participate at mandatory minicamp.
"It's obvious how hard he's worked," GM Phil Savage said. This is a big addition to an already deep Browns offensive line. Bentley, a Pro Bowl center in 2005, could join the competition to start at right guard in training camp.

Browns C LeCharles Bentley is scheduled to undergo his physical on Monday.
Coach Romeo Crennel says Bentley is excited about how good his surgically repaired knee feels. The Browns will know by Monday evening whether Bentley will be playing for them this year or not.

Browns OL LeCharles Bentley's agent guaranteed Tuesday that his client will play football in 2008.
Before Bentley can begin practicing with the Browns, he must pass their physical. It's no guarantee that Bentley will make the Browns out of training camp, but he intends to play elsewhere if that's the case.

The agent for Browns OL LeCharles Bentley says his client is doing "phenomenal" in his recovery from multiple knee surgeries.
The Browns let Bentley work out on his own in Arizona rather than report to Berea for their offseason conditioning program, which began Monday. Bentley, who reworked his contract in the winter, will vie for a roster spot.

LeCharles Bentley (knee surgeries) is expected to be ready for the Browns' offseason program.
Bentley, who re-did his deal towards the end of 2007 to make it incentive laden, will be vying for a roster spot. He is not a lock to contribute in 2008.

Browns and C LeCharles Bentley agreed to a restructured contract that will allow him to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2008 season.
Injuries and illness have kept Bentley out of the Browns lineup since signing in 2006 and the new deal opens future cap space. It will limit the Browns' financial exposure if Bentley cannot return, though he expects to join an improved offensive line next season.

Browns C LeCharles Bentley (knee) will not be activated from the PUP list and is out for the season.
This concludes the regular season portion of his attempted comeback from a 2006 knee injury suffered during training camp. The Browns had until Tuesday to make a decision and now Bentley will shoot for a return prior to the start of the 2008 season.

The Browns have until Tuesday to make a decision on whether to activate C LeCharles Bentley (knee surgeries) from the PUP list.
If not activated, Bentley will be out for the season. Considering the Browns winning record, they could be inclined to activate Bentley for a possible playoff push. G Seth McKinney (shoulder) was injured in Week 9 and if he is unable to start against the Steelers, reserve Lennie Friedman would take his place.

The Browns don't expect too make a decision on LeCharles Bentley (PUP, knee surgeries) before November 6.
"LeCharles has made strides and progress since we reported for training camp," GM Phil Savage said. "At this point it remains to be seen if he'll be cleared to practice or not." Bentley seems unlikely to help the Browns this year.

Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that LeCharles Bentley (knee) is not ready to begin practicing yet.
The Browns have two more weeks to either remove Bentley from the PUP list or lose him for the remainder of the season. "He's rehabbing, that's what he's able to do," Crennel said. "He's with the trainers and they're working with him. He's made some progress with them, but he's not ready yet. His [repaired knee] isn't as strong as the other one. If he continues to make progress, then that improves his chances."
