Phillip Rivers completed 20-of-25 passes for 231 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
It wasn't a monster fantasy day, but Rivers was almost flawless in real life. He was incredibly accurate and moved well in the pocket. Rivers didn't even use Vincent Jackson and was still effective. He's a QB1 even in a tough matchup at Denver next week.

Phillip Rivers completed 24-of-36 passes for 209 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's win over the Giants.
Rivers wasn't at his best because he was under heavy pressure all day and also suffered from a few bad drops. But he was excellent in the red zone going to his big targets and is now on pace for 28 touchdowns and 4,490 yards. He's a QB1 even in a tough matchup at Philadelphia next week.

Phillip Rivers completed 16-of-25 passes for 249 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Rivers immediately went to work with his new starting toy, Malcolm Floyd. The two hooked up on a 53-yard bomb on their first snap of the game. The Chargers ran the ball effectively in the red zone, which kept Rivers from putting up bigger numbers. He gets a reeling Giants secondary next week.

Philip Rivers was pulled mid-way through the fourth quarter with the Chargers beating the Chiefs 37-7.
Rivers completed 18-of-30 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns against a Chiefs secondary that was simply outclassed. Rivers could have easily had four or five scores, but a couple of poor passes and the Chargers' obstinately going to LaDainian Tomlinson inside the 5-yard line kept him from a monster game. Rivers has the Raiders at home next week.

Oct. 20 - 12:38 am et
Philip Rivers completed 20-of-33 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's loss to Denver.
The Broncos' defense was swarming, forcing Rivers out of the pocket constantly and hurrying him on virtually every snap. He was sacked a career-high five times by Elvis Dumervil and Co. Rivers showed good pocket awareness and a quick release in the first half, but it all fell apart in the second, as Denver only surrendered three points. The Chargers go to Kansas City next week.

Oct. 4 - 11:52 pm et
Philip Rivers completed 21-of-36 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns in the Chargers' Week 4 loss to the Steelers.
The Chargers couldn't get anything going in the first half, but wisely decided to begin airing it out towards the end of the game. Rivers was able to scramble around and deliver accurate balls to his receivers as the Chargers racked up 21 unanswered points between the third and fourth quarter. Hopefully coach Norv Turner will adjust his play-calling heading into next week.

Philip Rivers completed 18-of-33 passes for 303 yards and rushed for a five-yard touchdown in Week 3 against the Dolphins.
The rushing score was just the second of Rivers' career, with the first coming in 2007. He racked up 150 yards on just a dozen second-half throws, including dropping a 50-yard bullet right into Vincent Jackson's hands with two defenders covering.

Philip Rivers went off against the Ravens Sunday, completing 25-of-45 passes for 436 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Predictably, the Chargers couldn't run the ball at all so they took to the air. Rivers hit Darren Sproles on numerous effective screens and one flare that went for an 81-yard touchdown. He also threw some beautiful deep balls to Vincent Jackson. The interceptions probably cost the Chargers the game, but it was a big day for Rivers' fantasy owners.

Sep. 15 - 2:26 am et
Philip Rivers completed 24-of-36 passes for 242 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in Monday's Week 1 win.
Rivers was knocked around all game and was sacked three times behind a shaky line, but he ultimately got the job done and showed us why the Chargers gave him that big payday this preseason. He was 6-of-7 on the game-winning drive while throwing for 79 yards. Rivers is a true leader and came up big in the clutch for his team.

Aug. 24 - 6:28 pm et
Chargers signed QB Philip Rivers to a six-year, $92 million extension through 2015.
$38-39 million is guaranteed, including a $19.55 million signing bonus. The Giants guaranteed Eli Manning $35M, but his annual average is $16.25M. Rivers' is only $15.33M, making it a pretty good deal for GM A.J. Smith. Rivers doesn't have the ring, but is clearly the superior passer in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and aggressiveness. Eli might have a stronger arm, but Rivers is much better going down the field.

According to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli, contract extension negotiations between Phillip Rivers and the Chargers have been "sparse."
Rivers is thought to be the next quarterback from the class of 2004 to get filthy rich, following in the footsteps of Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. But the Chargers are known as a team that doesn't overpay for players. So even though Rivers' deal is up after this season, chances are he won't have a new contract before next summer.

Philip Rivers and his agent "intentionally" waited for Eli Manning's contract to be finalized before entering extension talks with Chargers GM A.J. Smith, according to Profootballtalk.com.
Why wouldn't they? Rivers has way better numbers than Eli, has played through a serious injury, and is noticeably a better on-field leader. Smith still holds the cards, though, with the ability to franchise tag Rivers in 2010.

Following Eli Manning's six-year extension, Philip Rivers said Wednesday that he's "optimistic" and "hopeful" of signing his own long-term contract with the Chargers.
He should be very happy. Rivers might not have the Super Bowl ring the Giants' defense and running game got Eli, but he's a far superior passer, particularly in terms of accuracy. Rivers will almost certainly get more than Eli.

The Chargers are reportedly still hopeful of signing Philip Rivers to a long-term extension before the start of next season.
Both Rivers and Eli Manning seem likely to get new contracts, and may wait for the other to set the market. They figure to get better money than Ben Roethlisberger received last year.

Chargers GM A.J. Smith and Philip Rivers will reportedly begin discussing a long-term contract soon.
Smith doesn't sound ready to give much leeway at the bargaining table. "You offer a contract and hope for the best," he said. "We'll have a contract (offer) and hope it's successful. If not, we have the franchise (tag)." Rivers is scheduled to make $6.5 million in the last year of his rookie deal.

Philip Rivers has opted out of the Pro Bowl due to a "sore knee."
Kerry Collins is undeservedly next up. The Chargers say Rivers won't need surgery, but this may be a concern. While Rivers never appeared hindered by the ACL he had reconstructed last offseason, it's possible that the tough QB concealed an aggravation late in the year. Check to see if he's back for OTAs.

Philip Rivers passed for 308 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick on 21-of-35 attempts as San Diego fell to Pittsburgh in Sunday's playoff game.
He came out slinging, hitting Antonio Gates for 21 yards on the first play from scrimmage and Vincent Jackson for a 48-yard scoring bomb on the fourth snap. But Pittsburgh dominated time of possession after that, keeping Rivers off the field until garbage time. Despite a tough schedule, Rivers emerged as the No. 2 fantasy QB in 2008, behind only Drew Brees. With LaDainian Tomlinson in decline, San Diego could go pass heavy next season. Rivers can safely be considered a top-five QB1 in 2009 fantasy drafts.

Philip Rivers completed 20-of-36 passes for 217 yards with one interception Saturday.
Rivers' best plays were two big runs for 13 yards that kept a scoring drive moving in the fourth quarter. A few loose throws in the fourth quarter, including the pick, almost lost the game, but Rivers calmly moved the ball in the two-minute drill and overtime. In the end, it was another memorable playoff effort from Rivers.

The Colts allowed only six touchdowns through the air this season, the lowest mark in NFL history.
While there is some luck in that mark (Indy was tenth in YPA allowed), Saturday will be a great matchup of strengths for Philip Rivers and the Chargers. Rivers played his best football of '07 in the playoffs, including a huge game against Indy before he got hurt.

Philip Rivers completed 15-of-20 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers' Week 17 win over the Broncos. He scrambled four times for 11 yards.
Rivers out-shined his new rival, Jay Cutler, and added to his already fantastic touchdown total. He'll finish the regular season with a Chargers franchise record of 34. He threw long passes and set up flawless screen plays, then allowed the running game to take over in the second half. San Diego will need him to be just as poised and accurate next week against the Colts.
