Jets released DB David Barrett.
Barrett is a serviceable player with versatility, but age (31) and an exorbitant salary ($3.71 million) were working against him. Barrett still probably won't be offered more than one-year, $1 million deals by free agent suitors.

Jets CB David Barrett headed to New York's locker room during the first half Monday with a shoulder injury.
Barrett was off to a fast start with a pick six and another near interception. The Jets are thin at cornerback with Justin Miller also hurt. Barrett returned after a few missed series.

Jets DB David Barrett has been seeing time at safety and is in danger of being cut Saturday.
Rookie Dwight Lowery's emergence as a probable starter at cornerback means that one of Barrett or Hank Poteat will likely be cut. Barrett carries a salary at close to $3 million, so the writing could be on the wall.

Jets agreed to a restructured contract with CB David Barrett.
Barrett's 2008 salary fell from $3.6 million to $2.4 million. The pay slash increases Barrett's odds of making the Jets, but he's a third-stringer at the moment and New York's second highest paid corner behind Darrelle Revis.

Jets CB David Barrett was benched for Hank Poteat Sunday.
Barrett worked as New York's nickel back. Recently signed Abram Elam started at safety opposite Kerry Rhodes. The shakeup didn't work, however, as the Jets surrendered 395 yards and 31 points to the Bengals' offense.

David Barrett is expected to be the Jets' starting cornerback opposite Andre Dyson to open the season.
Darrelle Revis' holdout has set him behind and Barrett had a sensational training camp. Revis should still work himself into a nickel role before long. Dyson might be first to hit the bench once Revis enters the starting lineup.

In addition to Justin McCareins, Jets beat writer Rich Cimini calls CB David Barrett and LB Eric Barton candidates to be traded on draft day.
McCareins is expected to have the most trade value of the bunch. Barrett and Barton could also be released if the Jets can't find any takers.

Jets CB David Barrett underwent surgery for a sports hernia after the season.
This slightly increases the chances for Barrett to restructure his contract and possibly stay in New York. The Jets had to appreciate him playing through the injury and it partially explains his poor play.

The New York Daily News pegs cornerback David Barrett as a potential salary cap casualty for the Jets.
For what it's worth, we believe there's no question Barrett will be cut. He was used on and off as a nickel back last year and is due $3.6 million in 2007 salary. Barrett would have to take quite a pay cut to stick around.

He reportedly has a better chance to play than Cedric Houston (questionable, knee) and Trey Teague (questionable, ankle). Barrett will likely work in obvious passing situations if he is able to go.
