Bears
Feb. 9 - 8:40 am et
New Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said that he envisions Devin Hester moving to the slot and playing reduced snaps on offense.
Martz sees Hester going back to his role as a full-time returner. "It would be very difficult for him to play every snap on offense and still play effectively on special teams," Martz said. Hester would play the slot role that Az Hakim did for Martz's Rams and it's worth noting that Hakim never caught more than 53 passes in a season. Downgrade Hester's outlook for 2010.

Bears
Feb. 5 - 10:08 am et
Devin Hester revealed Thursday that he played through a left shoulder injury in addition to his ankle and calf ailments during the 2009 season.
"I really couldn't use my left shoulder," said Hester. He said he played through the injury at "75 to 80 percent." Hester won't need surgery, but he's still rehabbing it to build strength. The lower leg injuries also affected his ability to push off, sapping him of his quickness. The team could opt to curtail the smallish Hester's offensive snaps since he couldn't hold up to the pounding of two full-time roles.

Feb. 4 - 1:05 pm et
Devin Hester said he would "love" to cut down on his time at wide receiver if it helps him return to dominance as a returner.
"I know what I'm best at," he said. "The return game is my bread and butter." Hester was beginning to emerge as a legit receiving weapon before ankle and calf injuries sent his season into a tailspin. The Bears don't consider him a true No. 1 receiver, and they have depth with Devin Aromashodu emerging along with Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett. Hester's ultimate role may hinge on the Bears' offseason moves.

The Bears will not turn Devin Hester back into a full-time returner, according to beat writer Dan Pompei.
This is a ridiculous notion. Hester was an above average NFL receiver this year and although his return numbers were way down, it can't all be blamed on his receiving duties. Hester will very likely return as a starting wideout next year.

Devin Hester caught three passes for 75 yards in Week 17 against the Lions.
Hester turned in a nice final effort after sitting out the past three games, finishing with 92 more yards on seven more catches than he had last season. Not exactly the breakout some people were misguidedly expecting, but he made some definite strides despite Jay Cutler's struggles.

The Bears expect Devin Hester (calf) to play on Sunday in Detroit.
Hester was not on the injury report for Week 17, and the team no longer considers his calf an issue. His return means that Week 16 star Devin Aromashodu will likely be a situational player.

Devin Hester is no longer on the Bears' Week 17 injury report.
The team no longer considers Hester's calf an issue. His return doesn't bode well for Devin Aromashodu, who will be a situational player at best against the Lions. Earl Bennett and perhaps Juaquin Iglesias will also rotate in.

Dec. 31 - 5:38 pm et
Devin Hester (calf) participated in a full practice Thursday, as expected.
With Johnny Knox (ankle) out, the Bears could move Hester to flanker in order to keep Devin Aromashodu at split end and Earl Bennett in the slot. Aromashodu is the best fantasy play of the three against the Lions.

Devin Hester (calf) will practice in full on Thursday.
Barring a setback, it appears that Hester will start in Week 17. That's bad news for people counting on Devin Aromashodu as a plug-n-play.

Devin Hester (calf) was limited in Bears practice Wednesday.
Hester hasn't been quick to recover from his calf strain and remains questionable for Week 17. Devin Aromashodu will start if Hester can't.

Dec. 28 - 7:27 pm et
Bears declared WR Devin Hester, S Al Afalava, S Kevin Payne, P Richmond McGee, WR Juaquin Iglesias, OL Lance Louis, DL Matt Toeaina, and OT James Marten inactive for Week 16.
Josh Bullocks and Craig Steltz -- a pair of coverage liabilities -- will be the Bears' starting safeties. The Vikings will probably still focus on the run considering Brett Favre's recent struggles and sub-30 degree temperatures. Brad Maynard's groin checked out in pre-game warmups, so he will punt.

Devin Hester will be among the Bears' inactives on Monday Night Football, according to beat reporter Brad Biggs.
Hester (calf) did come on the field for warmups initially, but quickly retreated inside. Devin Aromashodu is likely to replace him at flanker, with rookie Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett continuing to rotate at split end.

Dec. 26 - 11:27 pm et
Bears beat writer Brad Biggs thinks that Devin Hester (calf) is unlikely to play against the Vikings Monday.
Hester was unable to put in a complete practice all week and the 20 degree weather will likely keep his calf tight. Keep Hester on your bench and look for Devin Aromashodu to draw the start. The Bears are a crumbling mess anyway and Hester wouldn't have been a great option even if he was healthy.

Devin Hester (calf) was limited in Saturday's practice and is listed as "questionable" for Monday night's game against the Vikings.
Hester is a true game-time decision and you can find a better option considering the Monday night kickoff. The Bears are crumbling as the season comes to a close and Antoine Winfield (foot) is listed as "probable." If Hester can't go, Devin Aromashodu would likely draw the start.

Devin Hester (calf) was limited again in Thursday's practice.
Hester is following a path that would enable him to start against the Vikings Monday night, but he's not a quality option in fantasy leagues. We wouldn't want to count on any members of the Bears' limp offense during championship week.

Devin Hester (calf) returned to Bears practice on Wednesday, participating on a limited basis.
Hester will likely practice fully by Friday and start against the Vikings, but you don't want to count on him in fantasy leagues. Jay Cutler appears to have packed it in for the season. Vikings-Bears is on Monday Night Football.

Dec. 22 - 10:18 am et
Bears coach Lovie Smith said Devin Hester (calf) is "getting better" and could play this week.
Hester has missed two straight games and is expected to gradually work his way back into practice starting Wednesday. Devin Aromashodu impressed while filling in during Week 14, but caught just two of the 10 balls that came his way in Week 15. Neither one will be a good fantasy play against the Vikings Monday night.

Devin Hester (calf) is listed as doubtful for Week 15, as expected.
Hester will miss his second straight game. It's worth noting that Johnny Knox did not get the start when Hester was out in Week 14; Devin Aromashodu got the first-team nod at flanker. Earl Bennett was the starter at split end.

Dec. 18 - 11:22 am et
Devin Hester (calf) is expected to miss practice again Friday, which would leave him doubtful for Sunday's game at Baltimore.
Hester has done some light running this week, but he's not close to full speed yet. Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu will both be risky fantasy plays while picking up extra snaps this week. The Bears are aiming for Hester to return to face the Vikings on Monday Night Football in Week 16.
