LaDainian Tomlinson

Chargers
Nov. 15 - 7:21 pm et
LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 24 times for 96 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
Where did that come from? Tomlinson set a season-high for rushing yards in a tough matchup and actually broke tackles on his way to his two scores. Of course, Tomlinson did limp off at one point in the second half but returned. LT2 looked strong, but let's see him do it again before we give him RB2 status. He's a flex play against the Broncos next week.

LaDainian Tomlinson (probable, hip) put in another full practice Friday.
Tomlinson will play Sunday against the Eagles, but doesn't have a good matchup. Explore other options, even in leagues that start a "flex" position.

LaDainian Tomlinson (hip) returned to a full practice Thursday.
Tomlinson is on track to start after a day of rest. He's no more than a flex option against the Eagles this week, and we have him ranked as just the No. 33 fantasy back. Coach Norv Turner said he wants to call more runs, but the Eagles are a Top-10 run defense.

Chargers coach Norv Turner said he thinks LaDainian Tomlinson is doing a good job and he wants to call more runs.
"We need more carries," Turner said. "To continue to get better as a total team, no question we need more." We're not sure about that. The Chargers are probably better suited to airing it out and using Darren Sproles in the passing game. Tomlinson says his hip injury won't jeopardize his status for Week 10, but he's still a flex play at best against the Eagles.

LaDainian Tomlinson missed Chargers practice Wednesday with a hip injury.
Tomlinson claims it isn't serious, but it's not surprising that an in-decline 30-year-old running back is battling a nagging injury. LT has also shown up on the injury report with "ankle" and "foot" injuries this season, in addition to an illness. He has an undesirable Week 10 matchup versus Philadelphia.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, LaDainian Tomlinson is "likely" playing his last season for the Chargers.
Tomlinson can no longer create on his own, lacks burst to the outside, and isn't a passing-game asset. The Chargers almost certainly won't exercise his $2M roster bonus next March, despite his "hero" status in San Diego. They're a good bet to use a first-day pick on a running back in the 2010 NFL Draft.

LaDainian Tomlinson was emotional when talking about his career following the Chargers' Week 9 win over the Giants.
"I've been through a lot in my career; it's hard work," he said. "I don't want to say I'm coming to the end. But I don't know if I'll ever be in this stadium again. You cherish certain moments." Tomlinson clearly sees the end of the line coming and now seems more concerned with wins than his numbers. He's nothing more than a flex play against the Eagles this week.

Nov. 8 - 7:32 pm et
LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 12 times for 22 yards and caught two passes for eight yards in Sunday's win over the Giants.
This was a regression for LT2. He looked slow, lacked that ability to break arm tackles and was stuffed on a goal-line carry again. He's now averaging 3.17 yards per carry on the season and his season-high in rushing yards is 71. Tomlinson is a flex play in a tough matchup at Philadelphia next week.

LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 18 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Tomlinson's first touchdown came on a direct snap from six yards out and the second came on that off tackle play that looked like the LT2 of old. Late in the fourth quarter, Tomlinson came up gimpy after a defender dove into his ankle but the injury did not appear severe. His goal-line status makes LT2 a RB2 heading into next week's game at the Giants.

LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 23 times for 71 yards and added two receptions for two yards against the Chiefs in Week 7.
LT was stuffed an incredible eight times inside the 5-yard line, even with Norv Turner clearly forcing the issue late in the game. He didn't get much help from his blockers, but there's no doubt the old LT would have converted several of the opportunities. Though the 71 yards were a season-high, it's little solace for fantasy owners. He gets the Raiders as a RB2 next week.

LaDainian Tomlinson returned to a full practice Friday and is listed as probable to play Sunday at Kansas City.
This obviously isn't the LT of old, but he's an advised RB2 play against a Chiefs defense that ranks 25th against the run, surrenders one rushing TD per game, and let declining Clinton Portis break off the longest carry of his career (78 yards) in Week 6. Tomlinson did show last Monday night that he has enough juice left in his legs to capitalize on such favorable matchups.

LaDainian Tomlinson was one of four Chargers players to miss Thursday's practice with illness.
There have also been multiple players missing practice in Cleveland and Buffalo. Rashard Mendenhall returned to practice one day later after sitting out on Thursday a week ago, though it's not known if Tomlinson has the same illness. Check back Friday afternoon for practice updates.

When asked about the first quarter goal line play Monday night, Chargers coach Norv Turner said not to read into the fact that LaDainian Tomlinson didn't get the carry.
"The play we originally were going to call, Darren runs," said Turner. "We changed the call to a check, run and a pass." Sproles tried to run up the middle and was stuffed. Tomlinson clearly remains the team's goal line back.

LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 18 times for 70 yards and caught three passes for 30 yards in Monday night's 34-23 loss to Denver.
LT2 looked surprisingly quicker than he had in any previous game. He hit holes with a lot of burst and got outside better this week. LT2 was yanked on a big third-and-goal in the first quarter and was visibly upset. He and the Chargers look to get back on track next week in Kansas City.

Updating a previous item, the Chargers' 16 rushing yards in Sunday night's loss to Pittsburgh were a franchise low since 1961.
The matchup was difficult and San Diego resorted to the pass, but it's clear that LaDainian Tomlinson is several steps slower than he was in his prime, and the Chargers' offensive strength is no longer on the ground. They move the ball much more successfully when Darren Sproles is the primary back. Undoubtedly, it will be a long season for LT owners. He's barely an RB2.

LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) said he felt "pretty good" after Sunday night's loss to the Steelers.
"I'm still working my way back," said Tomlinson. "I wouldn't say I was there. A little rusty." The Chargers' 16 rushing yards were their lowest since at least 1992, and LT2 looked like a shadow of his former self. We're not holding out hope that he returns to stud status at any point this season.

LaDainian Tomlinson was held to 15 yards on seven rushes and caught just one pass for negative yardage Sunday in the Chargers' Week 4 loss.
Tomlinson not only appeared rusty in the running game, but also missed a few key blocking assignments, costing QB Philip Rivers time in the pocket. LT2 is no longer a fit with what the Chargers do well offensively and shouldn't be trusted this season until he produces in some fashion.

Oct. 2 - 3:39 pm et
LaDainian Tomlinson (probable, ankle) fully participated in practice for the third straight day Friday.
It's uncertain if he'll start over Darren Sproles. LT is a poor fantasy play against the Steelers' defense. Tomlinson figures to be rusty after two weeks off, and that won't help his chances of getting off to a hot start in the game. Let's see Tomlinson produce before using him as an RB2 or FLEX. Keep Sproles going in PPR leagues. He should still see 14-17 touches. Recall that the two were in a tightening rotation before Tomlinson's Week 1 injury, with Sproles dominating passing-down work.

Chargers coach Norv Turner expects LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) to play this week after he put in another full practice on Thursday.
"LT looked good," Turner said. "We're making the kind of progress we'd hoped for. Based on what I've seen, I think there's a good chance (he plays)." LT will be facing a stout Steelers defense while splitting touches with Darren Sproles. It's hard to sit your first-round fantasy pick, but Tomlinson isn't anything close to a Top-20 running back heading into this matchup.

Updating a previous item, LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) was a full participant in Chargers practice Wednesday.
It's a good sign for Tomlinson's chances of facing Pittsburgh, but this is no week to start him. The matchup is highly unfavorable and LT2 would likely share the backfield evenly with Darren Sproles should Tomlinson play. It's also a Sunday Night Football game. Tomlinson figures to be a game-time decision, and wouldn't be prudent to wait for with such a late start.
