Paul Kariya moved up to the second line on Thursday.
Kariya played with T.J. Oshie and David Backes on Thursday after spending five games on the checking line. He has no points in his last 11 games, the worst slump of his career. It's okay to sit Kariya for now but he will snap out of this drought as he is a proven point getter in the NHL.

St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts blasted his team on Friday over its poor start.
"I'm frustrated like everybody else," Checketts said. "And I think it's frankly time to declare the wait over. I think our fans have been patient, I think we've been patient. This is a team that the time has come ... it's time to win. The waiting is over. We don't need to be patient anymore. We have a right to expect. We're spending enough and we have a terrific group of guys. It's time to win. There is no reason for the kind of effort we saw last night. This team has everything it needs and now is the time to win. ... Everybody in the organization has to be on that page. It's time to win. We have everything we need to win. There's no excuse." The Blues are 2-6-1 at home and that does not sit well with the owner. Look for the Blues to explode on Saturday when they are home to San Jose.

Paul Kariya is currently on a nine-game scoreless drought.
He has been taken off the team's power-play unit and is skating on a defense-first oriented line with Jay McClement and B.J. Crombeen. Kariya has recorded nine shots on goal in the past three games, but playing on a checking line and not seeing time with the man advantage will make it harder for him to snap out of his slump.

Paul Kariya was taken off the Blues power-play unit Saturday.
The veteran was also moved to the checking line with Jay McClement and B.J. Crombeen. This isn't punishment, rather coach Andy Murray wants to use the savvy veteran in a more defensive role. However, that negatively affects his fantasy value. Kariya has four goals and seven points through 14 games this season. Don't expect much more from him.

Paul Kariya notched a goal in the Blues 3-2 overtime loss to the Coyotes Thursday night.
Kariya has three goals on the season. He can still find the back of the net, despite getting up there in age. David Backes added his first goal of the season for the Blues.

Look for Paul Kariya to stay on a line with Patrik Berglund and T.J. Oshie on Thursday.
Kariya was switched to the Berglund line in Finland and that seemed to get the line going. Brad Boyes will play on the top line with Brad Winchester and Keith Tkachuk. Of course, these lines could change during the second shift as coach Andy Murray is not afraid to change things up. Stay tuned.

Paul Kariya has noticed that his shot is better since his hip surgery last season.
Not only has his skating improved since the operation but the torque on his wrist shot has improved. Kariya notched two goals in the season opener on Friday matching his total from last year's injury-plagued season. Look for Kariya to get 25-30 goals this season in addition to 50 assists.

Paul Kariya netted two goals in a 4-3 victory over Detroit Friday.
Kariya missed most of the 2008-09 season due to a hip surgery, but he should score 70-80 points if he remains health in 2009-10. Jay McClement scored a goal and registered two assists with the Blues. B.J. Crombeen netted St. Louis' other goal.

David Perron, Carlo Colaiacovo, Patrik Berglund and Alexander Steen also scored for the St. Louis. The Blues open the regular-season on Friday against the Detroit Red Wings from Stockholm, Sweden.

Paul Kariya is enjoying a strong preseason for the Blues.
He has recorded two goals and an assist in two exhibition games thus far. This is great news for St. Louis as Kariya is coming off two hip surgeries. The 35-year-old has been playing with Brad Boyes and Patrik Berglund, which should help him post a strong bounce back year if he can stay healthy. Kariya is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Expect a good year from him this season as he should score near the point-per-game pace.

The St. Louis Blues have extended the contract of Andy Murray for another year.
This gives Murray two more seasons. The coach was outstanding last year in getting the Blues to the playoffs. "We decided to do it now because hockey is back in the news and we want everybody to know what we think of Andy, including the players," Blues President John Davidson said. "I think when you look at what Andy's done here on the ice and off the ice, how the players react to him, he's done a terrific job for us." Nice move by the Blues to keep Murray under contract.

Paul Kariya potted his first of the pre-season in a 3-1 triumph over the Wild Tuesday night.
Derek Armstrong and Chris Porter also scored for the Blues. Chris Mason got the start, turning aside all 13 shots fired his way. Ben Bishop took over and halted 23 of the 24 shots he faced.

Paul Kariya may play in Tuesday's preseason tilt with Minnesota.
He was kept off the ice on Saturday after complaining of some discomfort, but has worked hard all off-season to get back into game shape. "Kariya had the two hip surgeries, he's been here (in St. Louis working out) and he's in shape," Blues President John Davidson said. "He has worked so hard in the last week that he’s a bit tight. The doctors have expected that, so we're going to hold him off today and maybe even tomorrow. It's absolutely precautionary, there's no red flags . . . it’s all green to go. He's set."

Paul Kariya wasn't far from being ready to play when the Blues were eliminated from the playoffs in a four-game sweep against the Vancouver Canucks.
Kariya only played 11 games last season due to two hip surgeries, but he might have returned to the Blues' playoff roster had they held out a little longer. "I was planning on playing the next game (Game 5)," Kariya said. "It was obviously disappointing that we lost. There were a lot of hours in rehab and training to get back to the point where I felt I could play and help the team, and then it seemed like it ended so suddenly. Kariya should be fine for next season's training camp and is still capable of putting up point-per-game numbers when healthy.

Blues President John Davidson has won the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster.
Davidson was an outstanding broadcaster after his career as an NHL goalkeeper and before he was named the Blues President. "It's a tad overwhelming," Davidson said. "More than just a tad. It's overwhelming and it's humbling." Congratulations to Davidson on the prestigious award.

Paul Kariya will not play in Game 4 on Tuesday night.
"I'm not cleared to play," he said after skating with teammates on Monday. "That hasn't been done yet. There's a difference between bumping in practice and bumping in a game." The Blues certainly could have used the emotional boost of having Kariya back for Tuesday's critical contest. Vancouver will be looking to wrap up their first-round series with a Game 4 victory as they have St. Louis trailing 3-0.

Paul Kariya is listed as doubtful for Sunday's Game 3 contest in St. Louis.
He practiced in the morning with teammates and looked good once he got his legs under him. When asked if he would return to the lineup on Sunday night, Kariya responded, "We’ll see ... Dr. (Marc) Philippon cleared me to come back to the team and practice with the team and resume my day-to-day activities. We’ll go from there." If he does not play in Game 3 it is very likely he will return for Game 4.

Paul Kariya is expected to practice on Sunday morning with his teammates, but he will not play in Game 3.
If all goes well in the practice session he has an outside chance of playing in Game 4 on Tuesday night. Sources are indicating that Kariya is still being bothered by soreness in his surgically repaired hip. He has been out of action since Nov. 5, but still hopes to play at some point in the Blues' opening round series against Vancouver. Stay tuned.

Paul Kariya did not accompany the team to Vancouver where they will open their first-round series on Wednesday.
"Paul is not here," coach Andy Murray said. "He is not practicing with us, and until I see him on the ice here, he's not part of the equation. When Paul's here, we'll start thinking about him. But at this time, he's not here." He may still be able to play in Game 3 though if he can rejoin his teammates at practice soon. We will keep you posted.

Even if Paul Kariya gets medical clearance to play, coach Andy Murray will have a tough time deciding who, if anyone should come out of the lineup.
"To be very honest with you, I don't know how we take anybody out of the lineup," Murray said. "You know, I don't like a lot of change unless it's necessary. I realize Paul is a great player ... it would be crazy probably not to get him in the lineup. But I also believe when guys are doing the job, I've always said you've got to have a reason to take people out as well as a reason to put people in. If we do happen to get to the playoffs and Paul gets in, and is ready to play, do you do it right away or what do you do? There's going to be a lot of thought to it. It's not just going to be as easy as Paul Kariya has got to go in the lineup. That's not the case. He's a great player, a world-class player and everybody needs him. But I've got a pretty good group of guys right now that have been working their tails off." It should be interesting in St. Louis this week.
