Scott Rolen was scratched from Friday's lineup with back spasms.
Rolen is 34 and has a battered body from years of aggressive play at third base, so these type of injuries should come as no surprise. He's batting .267/.350/.367 in 120 at-bats since arriving in Cincinnati.

Scott Rolen homered in a loss to the Rockies on Wednesday night.
Rolen's ninth-inning solo blast gave the Reds a 3-2 advantage, but the Rockies rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth to win it. Rolen is batting .278 with two homers and 10 RBI in 21 games since joining the Reds at the trade deadline.

Scott Rolen, who was activated from the disabled list prior to today's game, went 0-for-3 against the Pirates on Sunday.
Rolen was returning from a concussion and drew two walks while also striking out twice. It may be best to give him another week off depending on your alternatives.

Reds activated third baseman Scott Rolen from the 15-day disabled list.
Rolen suffered a concussion in his second game with the Reds and was eventually forced to the disabled list. He appeared healthy during two rehab games at Triple-A Louisville. The Gold Glove third baseman, acquired at the July 31 deadline, has collected just 14 at-bats in a Cincinnati uniform.

Scott Rolen (post-concussion symptoms) is expected to begin a rehab assignment for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
He'll play for Louisville again on Friday, and if all goes well, he's expected to join the Reds on Saturday and be activated on Sunday. Adam Rosales has been filling in at third base.

Reds placed third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with post-concussion symptoms.
Rolen has collected just 14 at-bats since his trade from the Blue Jays on July 31. He was hit in the head by a Jason Marquis pitch last week and hasn't been right since, experiencing headaches and dizzy spells. A few weeks of rest should do the trick. Look for Adam Rosales to fill in at third base.

Scott Rolen (concussion) isn't expected to return to the Reds' starting lineup for several days.
Rolen was plunked in the head by a Jason Marquis pitch last Sunday and hasn't cracked the lineup since. "[Dr. John] Brannan said that as long as Scott has the symptoms -- headaches, lack of focus -- that he be kept out of any physical activitiy," Reds trainer Mark Mann said. The third baseman is likely to miss all three games this week against his former team, the Cardinals.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Scott Rolen is out of the lineup due to "concussion-like symptoms."
Rolen has been in and out of the lineup all week after being plunked in the head by Jason Marquis last Sunday. Look for the Reds to show great caution with the veteran third baseman.

Scott Rolen is a late scratch from Saturday's lineup against the Giants.
No word on the reason, but remember that he got beaned in the head last weekend. Adam Rosales will fill in and bat seventh against Barry Zito.

Scott Rolen is still feeling the effects after being beaned in the head on Sunday.
Rolen sat out Monday's game after suffering through a headache all day. He went for a CAT scan on Tuesday which revealed no bleeding in his brain. "They said I had almost the size of a normal human brain. I was real pleased with that," said Rolen. As reported earlier, Adam Rosales will fill in again for him on Tuesday.

Scott Rolen is out of the lineup for a second straight day, after getting hit in the head on Sunday.
Apparently Rolen is still feeling the effects, but inclement weather may prevent this game from even being played. If it does, Adam Rosales will fill in again, batting second against Tom Gorzelanny.

Scott Rolen is out of Monday's lineup, a day after getting hit in the head by Jason Marquis.
It's most likely just a precaution. Adam Rosales gets the start at third, batting second against Randy Wells.

Scott Rolen isn't expected to miss any time, despite taking a Jason Marquis pitch to the head Sunday.
It was a scary scene Sunday in Cincinnati, but Rolen felt fine after the game and did not require an MRI. The Reds take on the Cubs Monday night, so check back later for lineup updates.

Scott Rolen left Sunday's game in the seventh inning after getting hit in the helmet by a Jason Marquis pitch.
Rolen wasn't down for long and he was able to walk off on his own, so he'll likely be OK. Adam Rosales took his place.

Scott Rolen went 0-for-4 in his debut with the Reds on Saturday.
Not a good start, but we usually don't like to dabble in small sample sizes. Rolen hit fifth in the lineup against Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez and left one man on base. He came over to Cincinnati batting .320/.370/.476.

Reds acquired third baseman Scott Rolen from the Blue Jays for third baseman Edwin Encarnacion, RHP Josh Roenicke and RHP Zach Stewart.
Rolen never did look right in blue. He'll be back in red now, as former Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty is acquiring him for a second time. The Reds will make him their everyday third baseman and probably bat him fifth. Rolen has definitely played like an All-Star this year while hitting .320/.370/.476. However, he's just not a very good bet to stay healthy going forward and he's owed $11.8 million next year in the final season of his contract.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay, the Reds will send Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart to Toronto for Scott Rolen.
That's more like it. Reports at the 4:00pm deadline had 2008 first-round pick Yonder Alonso as part of the package, but simple math should have ruled that hoax out. Encarnacion might do well at the plate with a change of scenery, but it's hard to imagine his defensive skills improving on the Rogers Centre turf. He's up there with the worst third baseman in the league. Used to the hot corner prowess of Rolen, Toronto fans will be sorely disappointed.
