Rory McIlroy crafted a 6-under-par 33-32=65 in his opening round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, finishing three strokes off the clubhouse lead. The Ulsterman split only four (of 14) fairways and hit only 11 greens, but he still managed to bury seven birdies, all of which from inside 10 feet. His only conversion outside that range was a par save from 16'8" at 12. McIlroy suffered his lone bogey of the round at the par-4 first where his approach sailed the green landing 25 yards from the cup. He'd eventually two-putt from just outside 24 feet.
