Padres acquired 2B/OF Eric Patterson from the Red Sox. He's the player to be named in the Adrian Gonzalez deal. It's not clear at this point what the Pads plan to do with Patterson, but they'd likely at least give him the opportunity to compete for the second base job. If he doesn't win that, he'd fill a bench role as a reserve infielder and outfielder. Patterson has some wheels and would be an interesting sleeper for steals as a regular. Dec. 16 - 3:06 pm et
