According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said Jason Varitek has not made a decision about his 2010 player option. It's almost a given that Varitek will eventually exercise the option. It's worth $3 million and contains up to $2 million worth of incentives. He'd be hard-pressed to find that kind of money on the open market. Then again, perhaps he doesn't want to serve as a backup to Victor Martinez. Stay tuned.
