Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggests that the Mets could have interest in Jason Varitek. Varitek will almost surely exercise his $3 million player option with the Red Sox, but if he doesn't feel like playing expensive backup to Victor Martinez, he may choose to gamble and test the market. Varitek has been connected to the Mets as recently as last offseason.
