The Cardinals and Matt Holliday are "very close to reaching an agreement," according to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown. Brown tweets that an agreement could be reached within the next few hours. No word yet on the terms of the contract, but SI.com's Jon Heyman previously reported that the Cardinals at one point offered a seven-year, $112 million contract to Holliday -- a bid of $16 million annually. The market for Holliday was not what he or agent Scott Boras expected, so it appears that they will settle on the best long-term contract. Expect an announcement on the 29-year-old outfielder soon.
