Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Ryan Howard (Achilles surgery) is "ahead of schedule" but is still expected back sometime in May. In other words, he's not really ahead of schedule. Howard is currently rehabbing in Clearwater, FL, and all indications are that he's doing well, but the Phillies certainly won't rush him. Manuel also noted that he's going to try to get Howard to move up closer to the plate, something he's been unsuccessful at pleading in the past. Ty Wigginton and John Mayberry, Jr. will be the primary first basemen until Howard is ready, with Jim Thome also expected to play there as much as once per week.
