Athletics signed infielder Brooks Conrad and LHP Ryan Wing to minor league contracts. Two of the more interesting minor league free agents available. Conrad lost 140 points of OPS in Triple-A last year, dropping from 868 in 2006 to 725, but he could be a capable major league bench player if given the chance. The A's likely will stash him away in Triple-A unless Eric Chavez has to begin the season on the DL. If CHavez isn't ready, Conrad would battle Jack Hannahan and Donnie Murphy for time at third base. Wing, a quality prospect as a starter a few years ago for the White Sox, limited hitters to a .211 average in 114 innings for Double-A Birmingham last season. He has a pretty good shot of surfacing as a reliever within the next year or two. Dec. 12 - 12:31 pm et
