Hideki Okajima, who is arbitration-eligible this winter, hopes to negotiate a new contract with the Red Sox, according to Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. Okajima signed a two-year, $2.5 million deal with Boston before the 2007 season, with a $1.75 million team option for 2009, but under the terms of the agreement, he remains under team control until 2012. The 34-year-old southpaw was originally under the impression that he would be a free agent after his third season in the majors, causing a rift with his previous agent Peter Greenberg. Now that Okajima has switched over to Boston-based agent Joe Rosen, he hopes to negotiate a new deal. "I requested to my agent that I’d like a personal translator to be brought in," said Okajima in Sponichi. "More than money (salary), I want to play baseball in America even a year longer." Okajima has a 2.72 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over his first three seasons in the majors. Nov. 30 - 9:07 am et Source:NPB Tracker
