Avery Johnson had reportedly "lost several members of the locker room" before his firing on Thursday, according to the New York Times. One friend of Johnson's told the New York Times that Deron Williams had "totally quit on Avery," while the report states that "the relationship between Williams and Johnson has been uneasy since the start, but it eroded this season under weight of greater expectations." D-Will said that Johnson was a big reason why he re-signed with the Nets, but his actions speak louder than his words. There was some "suspicion surrounding Kris Humphries" and his mysterious abdominal injury, as well. Both Williams (wrist) and Humphries (abdomen) are expected to play Friday.
