Kelvin Sampson has emerged as a "significant" candidate for the Nets' vacant head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. According to Wojnarowski, Nets GM Billy King is intrigued with Sampson, who is currently a top assistant for the Rockets and served as interim coach briefly earlier in the season. Rockets officials apparently have been impressed by Sampson's ability to connect with star players, which could come in handy in Brooklyn. Deron Williams openly critiqued Avery Johnson's system and with Phil Jackson and Stan Van Gundy publicly taking their names out of the running Thursday, Sampson appears to be an early frontrunner.
