While many aren't too optimistic about the state of the CBA negotiations, the Philadelphia Daily News' Frank Seravalli sees progress.
Unlike a few weeks ago when commissioner Gary Bettman walked out on the NHLPA after 10 minutes, the two sides negotiated for just less than an hour and then met after lunch. In fact, Bettman said he "appreciated" the movement from the NHLPA toward the NHL, and he didn't dispute the $182 million gap NHLPA head Donald Fehr passed on to the media. Further, the NHLPA also moved past its demand for a specific dollar number in hockey-releated revenue, instead asking for a percentage, which is still seen as high at this point. Small steps in the right direction, sure, but still a lot of work to be done.
