Mikael Backlund: Backlund could play in Canada after Worlds

    Mikael Backlund - C - CAL - Dec. 18 - 7:11 am et

Mikael Backlund may play junior hockey in Canada after the World Junior tournament ends in early January.
There's a report out of Sweden that the Flames first pick in the 2007 Entry Draft, and 24th overall, that Calgary is not at all happy with the ice time that Backlund is getting, due in part to the Swedish team thinking that Backlund will play in North America next season. Backlund has four goals and eight points in limited third line duty and the Flames need him to play. Kelowna of the WHL owns his junior rights and they will get a serious upgrade in talent if Backlund plays across the pond. Stay tuned as Backlund has outstanding offensive potential.
