Frederik Andersen: G Frederik Andersen defied odds with Ducks

    Frederik Andersen - G - ANA - Mar. 8 - 9:02 am et

Frederik Andersen, the only goalie in NHL history from Denmark, was not expected to star for the Anaheim Ducks this season, or maybe ever.
Andersen entered training camp far down the team's depth chart and he saw some action in the preseason before heading to the minors. After Jonas Hiller, the Ducks had Viktor Fasth and prospect John Gibson, so Andersen was viewed as an odd man out. "We knew Andersen was good," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "But he was the one goalie no one was really talking about back then." When Fasth was injured, the Ducks promoted Andersen so that Gibson could continue to see plenty of action in AHL Norfolk. Now, Fasth has been dealt to Edmonton and Andersen is 15-3 with a 2.12 GAA, and the Ducks have decided Andersen is a more than suitable backup for Hiller. Mar. 8 - 9:02 am et
