Cardinals recalled RHP Mike Mayers from Triple-A Memphis.

Mayers will probably head back down when the Cardinals call up a starter to fill Adam Wainwright's rotation spot. The 25-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs -- two earned -- in four innings this season at the MLB level.

Braves recalled RHP Aaron Blair from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Blair will start for Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon against the Diamondbacks, filling the rotation spot left vacant by the recent Jaime Garcia trade. The 25-year-old former top prospect had posted an uninspiring 4.86 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 68/40 K/BB ratio through 87 innings this season at Triple-A.
Jul 26 - 2:11 PM

Braves optioned RHP Matt Wisler to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Wisler holds a brutal 8.53 ERA in 19 innings (one start, eight relief appearances) this season at the big league level. Aaron Blair has been called up in a corresponding roster move to start Wednesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Glen Perkins (shoulder, biceps) threw another scoreless inning Wednesday in the Gulf Coast League.

Perkins will now advance his minor league rehab assignment to High-A Fort Myers. It appears the veteran lefty could finally make his season debut next month, though he's already been through a number of stops and starts in his recovery from major shoulder surgery.
Jul 26 - 2:06 PM

Robert Gsellman (hamstring) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Binghamton.

Gsellman was placed on the disabled list four weeks ago with a left hamstring strain and might need multiple rehab outings to get back on track. The 24-year-old right-hander has posted a highly disappointing 6.16 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 76 innings this season for New York.
Jul 26 - 1:54 PM

Mookie Betts is out of the Red Sox starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Mariners.

It's a rare day off for the 24-year-old outfielder, who went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in Tuesday night's extra-innings loss at Safeco Field. Brock Holt is in right and batting leadoff Wednesday versus M's right-hander Andrew Moore.
