Brett Kulak and the Calgary Flames have filed their contract requests ahead of Monday's arbitration hearing.

Kulak had two goals and eight points in 71 games last season. The Flames put him on waivers recently and he successfully cleared, which should help their case on Monday. Jesperi Kotkaniemi has a real shot of making the Montreal Canadiens out of training camp, per Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin.

"He got better every day, so we're going in with an open mind," Bergevin said of Kotkaniemi. "I don't know, but just the fact that he's signed and he's coming to camp and he's closer to the NHL. Where he's going to be Oct. 1, I can't tell you, but we see a lot of potential and growth in this young man." Montreal took Kotkaniemi with the third overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He had 10 goals and 29 points in 57 Finnish league games last season. The Canadiens have high hopes for Kotkaniemi, especially given their need for a top-end center.
