Sunderland have completed a deadline-day season-long loan deal for Liverpool forward Fabio Borini.

Borini has struggled badly with injuries since joining Liverpool for £10million last summer and was unlikely to force his way in to the starting XI this season, so a season on loan makes sense for all parties. Sunderland will be pleased to have secured another forward option, although Borini may not walk straight in to the team with Steven Fletcher, Jozy Altidore and Connor Wickham already at the club.

Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon will miss the upcoming Euro qualifier against Northern Ireland after failing to recover from a knee injury.

Pantilimon was superb during the goalless draw at the Emirates in GW37 securing a point which guaranteed Sunderlands' top flight status for another season but the performance came at a cost as the Black Cats number one picked up an injury which has ruled him out of the final game at Stamford Bridge. Although the problem is not thought to be serious the Romanian national side will take no risks with the game only 10 days away. Pantilimon won a regular spot in the Sunderland line-up back in November after taking over from Vito Mannone and the stopper was one of the stand-out performers during his 28 BPL starts.

Young Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford will not feature for the under-21s this summer as England mount their challenge to become European Champions.

Bamford impressed during his season long loan deal at Championship side Middlesbrough scoring 19-times - despite being hampered by a persistent ankle injury - and will now take the summer to rest and recover. The Teesiders' narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League losing to Norwich City in the play-off final. However his withdrawal will not leave under-21 manager Gareth Southgate too disappointed as the former Aston Villa defender will be able to call upon a wealth of Premier League talent including the likes of Danny Ings, Harry Kane and Saido Berahino as England establish themselves as one the tournament favourites. The U21 European Championships kick-off in just under 2-weeks.

Goal.com is reporting that Petr Cech will choose Arsenal over PSG as his next club indicating a desire to start regularly and not uproot his life from London.

Would Chelsea prefer to lose their former number one to a potential Premier League competitor or the club that knocked them out of the Champions League this past season? Tough choice. Cech seems determined to leave now that it is clear that he is second choice behind Thibaut Courtois. There are rumors of a promise to allow him to leave for a club of his choosing after he agreed to stay on for Courtois' first year at the club. If this is true, it could be good news for Arsene Wenger who would certainly enjoy stealing a Chelsea legend who still has some good years left.

Mere days after being elected to head the sport's world governing body for a fifth consecutive four-year term, Sepp Blatter has stepped down as the breadth and depth of scandal under his watch continues to come to light.

There is still no smoking gun linking Blatter to any personal misconduct, at least none that has been made public. The growing evidence against senior FIFA officials and likely pressure from sponsors and regional federations have combined to see the 40-year FIFA employee resign his post. Blatter will stay in office until a successor can be elected at an extraordinary FIFA Congress that will have to be organized. (Apologies to Lucas Podolski for being the player we associate this story with but he was a FIFA World Cup winner and we had to choose someone as we don't have a Sepp Blatter "player card" in our database).

A Turkish newspaper has linked Arsenal forward Joel Campbell with a €10 million move from Arsenal to Fenerbahce this summer.

After yet another productive loan spell away from Arsenal, this one at Villarreal, Joel Campbell appears likely to be leaving Arsenal on a permanent basis this summer. Campbell seems to be getting farther from playing a significant role at Arsenal rather than closer. If Fenerbahce, or someone else, comes through with a fee similar to the €10 million mooted in this rumor, it seems likely that Campbell will be sold.

After a season out on loan in his native Portugal, Nani is a Manchester United player again but that may not last for long.

Reports in Italy have the United spare part linked with a potential move to Inter Milan. With Angel di Maria still around, Memphis Depay arriving soon and Ashley Young having experienced something of a career renaissance it seems unlikely that Nani would get much playing time if he were to return. After seven goals in 27 matches in a second tier league in Portugal, it seems unlikely that Nani will fetch a significant fee. United will likely be happy just to get his wages off the books.

Manchester United are reportedly using David De Gea's potential move to Real Madrid as leverage to bring one or both of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to Old Trafford.

Starting with the preamble that swap deals almost never happen, Manchester United would certainly be wise to get as much leverage as they can out of a potential De Gea deal. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema have both been linked with moves away from the Bernabeu this summer but it seems unlikely that both will leave. The rumor is weakened by the fact that United don't have a great deal of leverage with De Gea having only one year to run on his current contract. If United overplay their hand the Spanish goalkeeper can just play out the season and move to Real Madrid for free next summer on a free.

AFC Bournemouth have executed their third signing of the summer thus far as they strengthen their newly promoted side with a loan deal for Chelsea's Christian Atsu.

The Ghana international spent the past season loaned away to Everton and did not get a chance to make much of an impression, failing to start a single league match, collecting no goals and only an assist in league play. It is safe to say his role will be increased dramatically with the Cherries thereby thrusting him onto the fantasy radar heading into next season. He will certainly be worth monitoring in pre-season to see how Eddie Howe plans to utilize him.

Former Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed with AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Federici had his contract expire at the end of the 2014/2015 season and Reading had no interest in striking a new deal. Federici had spent the previous ten years under Reading's control, with loan spells to several other clubs peppered in along the way. Unless something strange is afoot, he should arrive at Dean Court with his role already known - a backup to Artur Boruc, who the Cherries brought in from Southampton a few days ago.

Tottenham have signed Kevin Wimmer, an Austrian center back by way of FC Köln, to a five year contract.

Already the youngest squad in the top flight, Spurs continue to plant seeds for the future with the signing of the twenty-two year old center back. Brought in for a fee of 4.3M, Wimmer will likely not work himself immediately into the XI, but with the possibility of both Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches leaving White Hart Lane this summer, it shouldn't leave the new signing too far down the depth chart. Wimmer has a reputation for sacrificing his body to get the job done, evidenced by leading the Bundeslinga in blocks this past season.

Dedric Boyata has moved from Manchester City to Celtic for £1.5 million and signed a 4-year deal with the SPL side.

Boyata hasn't been a significant part of the Manchester City side for some time but the move is significant only in that Boyata, who came to City at the age of 16, counted as a home grown player for City. With his departure, the once-capped Belgium international joins Frank Lampard, Scott Sinclair, and potentially James Milner as home grown players leaving the Etihad this summer. City are going to have to start recruiting English players fast if they are to meet FA and Champions League regulations.
