Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will be assessed after he was forced off during the 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho believed the 19-year-old was suffering from cramp when he went down in the 75th minute, but he later confirmed that Rashford was injured: "I thought it was muscular fatigue. But no, he told me he felt something in his knee. It didn't look to me like a big thing but we don't know." Phil Jones will also be checked ahead of the trip to Huddersfield as he continues to struggle due to an ongoing knee problem, although barring any further setbacks, the centre-back will be available. However, "it will be difficult" for Eric Bailly to make the trip while Saturday will come too soon for Paul Pogba [hamstring] and Marouane Fellaini [knee]. Marcos Rojo is said to be a "few weeks" away but his return is likely to be with the under-23s as he builds fitness.

Chelsea were dealt a triple injury blow on Wednesday evening although none are believed to be serious.

Speaking after his sides 3-3 draw with Roma in the Champions League, Antonio Conte responded to questions about David Luiz, who was enraged following his withdrawal on the hour mark. The Chelsea boss revealed his substitution was more of a precaution due to a calf complaint: "I think it was a good decision to try to protect him. Also, because, I repeat, in this moment it's very important to protect the players. Then I changed the system and I preferred to change." Tiemoue Bakayoko played the full 90 minutes, but Conte confirmed the midfielder has a minor groin issue while Gary Cahill finished the game with his head and chin wrapped in a bandage following a cut, although it’s "nothing serious" and the captain will be okay for Saturday. Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante [both hamstring] will miss the game against 4th placed London rivals Watford at Stamford Bridge.

Christian Benteke is poised for an early return to action having been sidelined since September because of injury.

The Crystal Palace striker suffered knee ligament damage at Manchester City in game week six leaving the Eagles without a recognised forward following the departure of Loic Remy and Fraizer Campbell while Connor Wickham is still recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The news follows quickly on from the return of Wilfried Zaha who helped orchestrate his sides first win on Saturday, a victory which Roy Hodgson hopes can be used as a platform to kickstart their season. Although the trip to Newcastle will come too soon, Benteke is targeting a return within a "few weeks" and could feature before the next international break. "The rehab is going really well and I'm feeling really happy with the way that my ligament is healing. I really want to help the team and do well this year to make sure I'm in the [World Cup] squad."

Tony Pulis admits the knee injury sustained by Ben Foster is an "enormous worry" while the full extent the problem is yet to be determined.

The West Brom goalkeeper was a notable absentee on Monday night at the King Power Stadium as Boaz Myhill came in for his first Premier League start since April 2016. Following the 1-1 with Leicester, Pulis revealed that Foster had been "playing with his son in the back garden" and tweaked his knee, and because of his previous problems, which includes reconstructive surgery "there was no way in a million years we were going to take the risk with him." Foster will have a scan ahead of this weekend’s trip to Southampton. Myhill is expected to deputise on Saturday, despite picking up a lower leg injury following a nasty collision with Jamie Vardy. "I managed to get through the rest of the game," he said post-match. "I’ll go and see Mark Gillett (director of performance) and we’ll have a look. I think so (a dead leg)."

Craig Shakespeare has been sacked as manager of Leicester City just four months being given the job on a permanent basis.

Shakespeare succeeded Claudio Ranieri as caretaker manager last season and led the club out of the relegation zone and to a 12th-place finish. But less than 24 hours after a 1-1 draw with West Brom, the club decided to part with the 53-year-old. Monday's 1-1 draw with the Baggies dropped the Foxes into the bottom three and marked a run of sixth matches without a win - the same as when Ranieri was relived of his duties nine months ago. Shakespeare, who signed a three-year deal in June, leaves with Leicester having won just once in eight league matches this season. Michael Appleton, who had been working as Shakespeare's assistant, will take caretaker charge for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Swansea City. Among the potential replacement candidates being tipped are Sam Allardyce, Wales manager Chris Coleman, David Moyes and Roberto Mancini.

Jose Mourinho provided an unexpected injury update ahead of the Champions League tie against Benfica.

Marcos Rojo was part of the travelling squad to Portugal, but while the United boss revealed in an exclusive interview with MUTV, that the defender would not be included in the match day squad "he is coming with the team to train," Mourinho did go onto say that in "probably two weeks, Marcos is ready to play," which is a huge bonus given that his initial timeline was early 2018. The Argentina international was considered surplus to requirements at one stage, however he performances at centre-back earned him a regular starting spot in 2016/17 before he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the Europa League back in April. The return of Rojo next month will help to bolster the ranks as the team head into a busy period with 13 games scheduled during the six weeks leading up-to Christmas / New Year.

The illness that caused Ben Davies to miss Tottenham's win over AFC Bournemouth this past weekend will keep him out of this week's Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

The timing of Davies' absence is intriguing, as Danny Rose has been working toward a return to action, has been training ahead of Madrid and is in the squad to make his first appearance since last season. However, Spurs are up against one of the best clubs in the world and one wonders if Mauricio Pochettino would want to use this type of matchup to reintroduce the England international. He could opt for Heung-min Son as a wingback as he did over the weekend. Either way, Rose's return calls into question how Tottenham's defense will line up going forward, as Davies has been fantastic thus far.

Riyad Mahrez came back from a weekend out of the starting line-up with a goal that saved a point at home for Craig Shakespeare's side.

After earning plaudits for his August efforts in the face of transfer rumors, Riyad Mahrez's impact waned through September eventually earning him a place on the bench in Week 7. Craig Shakespeare restored Mahrez to the starting line-up after the international break and he was rewarded with a much-needed equalizer from the Algerian international. It could have been two as Mahrez blazed a solid opportunity high in the early minutes of the second half with the match still scoreless. He eventually came good and repaid his manager's renewed faith with a vital point.

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is expected to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday in Champions League.

The Argentine forward was on the bench in the club's 7-2 rout of Stoke City on Saturday, but was kept off the pitch as he recovers from a broken rib injury suffered in a car accident before Gameweek 7. However, Aguero looks set to be recalled into the starting lineup for the club's Champions League group stage match against Serie A-leading Napoli. Said manager Pep Guardiola: "Day by day he is much better, yesterday (Sunday) he made an amazing training session. The day before Stoke was good but not perfect - yesterday was really good."

Tottenham will have to do without starting left-back Ben Davies for the second straight match due to illness.

The Welsh international missed the club's 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday after being a late scratch due to illness and will now miss the club's Champions League showdown with Real Madrid on Tuesday. However, manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that defender Danny Rose is set to be in the team after recovering from a knee injury suffered in January. "Danny Rose will be on the bench – that’s important, maybe he’s not fit to play from the beginning but to help the team...Mousa Dembele is here as well. Dele wanted to come and stay with the team. We have injured players like (Erik) Lamela, still recovering and (Victor) Wanyama back at the training ground."

Huddersfield Town midfielder Philip Billing will undergo a scan on Monday after suffering an ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat by Swansea City on Saturday.

The Denmark Under-21 started alongside Jonathan Hogg in midfield with regular Aaron Mooy on the bench, but was carried off on a stretcher at the Liberty Stadium after he fell to the ground clutching his right leg at the hour mark. "It was a twist on his ankle and it looks serious," said Town manager David Wagner after the match. "I think we will know more on Monday after we have made a scan." Mooy will be expected to return to the starting XI when the Terriers face Manchester United at home on Saturday, while Danny Williams, who replaced Billing at the weekend, could be in line for more playing time should the scan reveal significant damage.
