Wayne Rooney won't feature this weekend against Crystal Palace as he slowly returns to fitness after the massive gash to his head.

Wayne Rooney missed both of England's qualifiers over the International Break and it appears he will miss the match against Crystal Palace this weekend as well. Rooney has returned to training but with United heavily favored he won't be risked at something less than full health and fitness. Danny Welbeck is likely to continue in Rooney's stead and should be an interesting fantasy option given United's weak opposition.

A hat-trick from Harry Kane and a brace from Erik Lamela helped Tottenham thrash Greek side Asteras Tripolis and saunter to a first win in the Europa League group-stage.

Let's start with Lamela's first goal, a 20 yard 'rabona', one of the most outrageous finishes ever seen in football. If you haven't seen it yourself, check the link below. Kane opened the scoring with a fine strikr of his own and went on to score a hattrick, with Lamela grabbing a second goal himself. It was a particularly eventful night for Kane, who ended the game in goal when keeper Hugo Lloris was sent off (with Spurs having used all three substitutes), and conceded from the first shot he faced in comical style. Still, it was a great performance and result for Mauricio Pochettino's men and they will take confidence in to the weekend clash with Newcastle.

Fraser Forster is top of the goalkeeper picks for Week 9.

Southampton are in great form and have the best defensive record in the league, so with a home game against Stoke it would appear that Forster is the best keeper choice for the second week running.

Branislav Ivanovic is tipped to perform well for Chelsea against Manchester United.

Manchester United appear unable to defend at the moment, particularity at set-pieces, and Ivanovic is one of the most dangerous players in the opposition's box. The defender is pricey, but a goal is very possible and you know he'll give 100% for the Chelsea cause. An excellent pick for Week 9 if you can afford him.
Oct 24 - 4:55 AM

Everton's Seamus Coleman can continue his good form at Burnley in Week 9.

Vital to Everton and a genuine goal threat, Burnley will find it difficult to cope with Coleman's runs down the right flank and the full-back could have a huge fantasy week. We marginally prefer him to Leighton Baines, but both are expensive options so you'd need to feel confident in Coleman's returns in order to splash the cash.

Sadio Mane's goal was taken away by the Premier League today and has been ruled an own goal by Patrick van Aanholt.

The Premier League reviews goals the week after and in rare cases like this one, changes the call. This is only important for those keeping track of goals on the season or for Sadio Mane's career, both of which are fairly irrelevant. The good news for fantasy owners is that his goal stands in the Yahoo! game and Mane remains a good fantasy options for the coming weeks. Keep an eye on whether he starts over Shane Long, but we anticipate he will.

Diego Costa was hospitalized earlier this week after getting a virus and falling ill.

The striker has been released and there should be more updates on his health tomorrow. Costa has also missed the team's last two games through injury and his status for this weekend's match is now cloudy at best. Check back tomorrow for a much needed update, which could be enough for us to know who starts for Chelsea on Sunday against a poor Manchester United defense.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has declared himself ready to face Manchester United this weekend.

The striker is getting up to speed at age 36 and could be asked to lead the line on Sunday. Diego Costa is dealing with a number of injuries and health issues and Loic Remy was subbed out in the Champions League in midweek with an injury. All of Chelsea's strikers are sounding optimistic about their chances to play, to Drogba could be the only one standing come Sunday. Tomorrow's press conference should tell us more.

Mark Hughes confirmed during Thursdays’ pre-match press conference that Glenn Whelan will be out for up to six weeks after an assessment confirmed the Republic of Ireland international had fractured his leg during the draw with Germany.

Originally it was thought that Whelan had suffered a knee ligament injury and the experienced midfielder was sent for a scan to help diagnose the problem but a fracture has now been confirmed. His absence will open the door for the versatile Geoff Cameron to potentially fill the void following his impressive cameo against Swansea - himself just returning from a spell out. The Stoke manager would be keen to utilise his US international centrally although with Phil Bardsley [back]emerging as a doubt for the trip to St Marys’ then he may have to play in his more familiar full-back role with Andy Wilkinson joining Millwall on loan earlier this week.

Leicester City midfielder Marc Albrighton returned to the squad this weekend and started against Newcastle.

Marc Albrighton had missed a number of games despite being healthy and wasn't even being included in the matchday squad. That changed this weekend with a start against Newcastle but the winger didn't do too much to impress Nigel Pearson. He struck the crossbar early on but failed to cause any other danger in front of Tim Krul. He walked away from the match with five Yahoo! fantasy points but we aren't excited about his future fantasy potential just yet. Stay away for now.

Enner Valencia scored his second Premier League goal over the weekend, showing fans why West Ham brought him in over the summer.

The popular signing has had a relatively quiet season so far but showed what the hype is all about this weekend with a goal. We expect Valencia to score more than once every four games(current rate), but the problem we have is that the striker doesn't contribute many points outside of goals. Good fantasy players return points even without scoring, and Valencia needs to step it up in that regard to become a better asset. With that in mind, at £ 6.99M, he could be a great differential play against lesser teams.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar was active in his return to action this weekend and finished with eight fantasy points.

The Villa defender registered two blocked shots, two passes intercepted, and two tackles won. That was decent for someone just returning from injury and Vlaar showed why he is a valid fantasy option even without a clean sheet. He is cheap enough in most formats to where he makes for an excellent choice in plus matchups. Villa just came out of a very rough stretch of matches and their schedule gets easier with QPR, Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and West Brom up next.
