Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic helped Stoke City to a 0-0 draw against West Brom with some key saves in what was an unsurprising outcome.

Stoke have been good at home defensively and were able to keep a clean sheet against a struggling West Brom side. West Brom fans will be unhappy as they should have been given a penalty on a clear foul. At the end of the day, both sides created some good chances but neither side was able to capitalize and the teams came out with a point each.

Liverpool prepare to take their spending past £80 million for the summer, which is good news for Man City as they launch a third bid to secure Raheem Sterling…

The Daily Express report that Liverpool are ready to meet Aston Villa’s £32.5 million release clause in Christian Benteke’s contract. The Belgian striker would be their sixth signing of the summer, taking their spending past £80 million. All of which is music to Manuel Pellegrini’s ears. City have already had offers of £25m and £40m for Raheem Sterling knocked back, but with an £80m hole in Liverpool’s budget it is widely thought that a third bid closer to £50m will finally land their man. Sterling reported back to pre-season training this morning and will no doubt want the matter dealt with quickly. Not least because he stands to pocket a £4m slice of his agents’ fee if a £50m deal is done, thanks to an unique contract arrangement.

Roberto Martinez is on pole position to sign Juventus center-back Angelo Ogbonna in a £7 million deal…

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are ready to listen to offers for center-back Angelo Ogbonna and Everton are ready to pounce. The 27-year-old made 25 appearances in Juve’s double-winning season and was on the bench for the Champions League final. But has struggled to nail down a regular first team spot. His availability has alerted West Ham and Southampton, but Roberto Martinez has been tracking the player all summer and thought to be favorite to land him for a fee in the region of £7m. Italian international Ogbonna will relish the chance to revive his career in the PL with the Euros coming at the end of the season and provide Everton with a quality alternative to John Stones and Phil Jagielka.

Norwich have been put off a move for Robbie Brady by Hull’s £7 million asking price…

The proposed transfer of Robbie Brady to Norwich has hit the buffers because Hull are demanding too much money for the winger. Norwich boss Alex Neil has identified the Republic of Ireland international as key to his plans on their return to the PL, but value Brady at £4.5 million. Hull want £7 million for the former Manchester United man who spent two years on loan at the club before making the move permanent in January 2013. He was a regular last season, playing 34 times and will add PL experience but if a compromise cannot be made Norwich will turn their attention elsewhere. QPR winger Matt Phillips was a player of interest, but he looks on the verge of a move to West Brom so Norwich could be left frustrated.

Tottenham have formally announced that Etienne Capoue has joined Watford on what is believed to be a £5million transfer.

Capoue, believed to be part of a package deal between Spurs and Watford that could also include Benjamin Stambouli, should see the field much more at Watford than he did at Spurs. After a high profile move to the North London club as part of the class of summer signings that came in to replace Gareth Bale, playing time failed to materialize. With Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb ascendant in holding midfield roles, Capoue's move was inevitable. As Watford's new record signing, he should be a guaranteed starter.

Chelsea are still confident of capturing the signature of Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic despite late interest from Manchester United.

Mourinho moved quickly to increase his offer to over $12 million after his initial bid was rejected a week ago and the Blues expect Begovic to pen a 4-year deal said to be worth around $110k per week. The move could also see either Victor Moses or Patrick Bamford move to the Britannia on-loan for the 2015/16 season. Meanwhile Chelsea face a struggle to keep full-back Felipe Luis at the club as the defender is unhappy with his lack of first team opportunities. The Brazilian has found himself playing second fiddle to Cesar Azpilicueta but Atletico must stump up around $25 million as Chelsea are keen to recoup the money they invested last summer.

With rumors still flying about a move to Real Madrid, David De Gea is set to rejoin Manchester United for the start of pre-season training today.

The player's presence at the start of pre-season training is probably not indicative of anything other than that it is going to be a complex and drawn-out process to get De Gea from Old Trafford to the Bernabeu. There is no indication that there is any acrimony between any of the parties so consider this business as usual until the situation changes. There isn't any indication that De Gea has decided to reverse course and commit his future to United so it would be an eternal optimist that would take his reporting to training as anything other than waiting until the other shoe drops.

Manchester United forward Angelo Henriquez has secured a permanent transfer from Old Trafford to Dinamo Zagreb.

The much-loaned Henriquez leaves Old Trafford never having appeared in a first team match for the Red Devils. On loan last season at Zagreb, the Chilean international scored 20 goals in 25 matches so clearly the Croatian club was motivated to keep him. They will be getting a newly crowned Copa America champion as well as Henriquez played a reserve role in Chile's run to the South American championship on Saturday.

Toby Alderweireld's summer has taken an odd turn as Atletico Madrid reportedly missed a deadline to pay Southampton a £1.5million fee to invalidate their right to make the Belgian's move to St. Mary's permanent for a cut-price fee.

If this story is true then someone at Atletico is in big trouble because Spurs and perhaps Chelsea appear to be willing to pay far more than the rumored £6.8million fee that Southampton's loan deal allows them to purchase the player for. The deal will also likely not sit well with the player as he apparently has his heart set on joining Belgium colleague Jan Vertonghen at Spurs this summer.

Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is close to a return to Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £3.8 million…

After the disappointing news that winger Robbie Brady will not be arriving (yet, anyway) because Hull are asking for too much money. Norwich fans will be cheered by the news that their misfiring front man Ricky van Wolfswinkel is going. Reports in Holland suggest he is on the brink of rejoining Sporting Lisbon for a fee in the region on £3.8 million. His record of 54 goals in 119 matches persuaded Norwich to pay a club record £8.5m in 2013, with fans hoping the Dutch International would be another van Basten or a van Nistelrooy. But after a goal scoring debut, he quickly looked more like a van driver – failing to hit the net in his following 24 appearances. He spent last season on loan at St-Etienne, scoring five times (in 24 matches) but not enough to earn a permanent deal. Or another stab at the PL with Norwich.

Fabio Borini looks set to remain a Liverpool player - certainly for the time being - as talks with Lazio appear to have broken down over the players personal terms.

A fee had been agreed by the two clubs but Italian newspaper Il Messaggero report that a disagreement between the owners of Lazio and the players representatives means that the proposed move has been shelved. Borini of course has previous having rejected not one but two moves last summer for having "wildly unrealistic expectations" with his salary rumoured to be in excess of £140k per week. With two years still to run on his current contract Borini seems quite happy to sit back despite the arrival of Danny Ings and a proposed move for Christian Benteke pushing the Italian even further down the pecking order.

The arms race in Turkey is heating up as Fenerbahce match Galatasaray's signing of Lukas Podolski by signing Nani from Manchester United.

Former stars from top European leagues have dotted the Turkish first division in recent seasons from Didier Drogba to Wesley Sneijder to Filipe Melo to Demba Ba. Many have moved on over the past two summers and a new wave appears to be arriving to take their places. Nani wasn't going to regain his place at Old Trafford after a season out on loan and a move to Turkey as he, at 28-years-old, starts toward the downside of his career probably makes sense. The deal is not 100% official yet but it should be shortly as the Turkish club have posted a photo of the player arriving for his medical on their official Instagram account.
