Southampton waited an awfully long time to start its search for a new manager, firing Claude Puel on Wednesday.

Puel was sacked just one year into a two-year contract since taking over for Ronald Koeman last summer. The French manager arrived from upstart Nice and took the Saints to the League Cup final, where the lost to Manchester United, as well as eighth place in the Premier League. But the club's hierarchy and fan base were unsettled by the club's style of play along with 16 losses in the league. Now, the search for a new manager will begin less than one month before the start of the preseason, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel already ruling himself out of the running.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has posted a video showing off his kickboxing abilities captioned "Which knee?"

The video suggests that Zlatan is eager to return to professional football after his prolonged absence since suffering a season ending knee injury last April. José Mourinho previously admitted that Ibra and Manchester United had been speaking about handing the veteran striker a new contract once he could prove his fitness. Earlier this month, he said: "He's injured and needs time to recover. He's not ready to play tomorrow so it's not urgent. We're not desperate to have it done or not done." "We are discussing the possibility of him staying with us for the second part of the season," he added. Rumours are now suggesting that the Swede will indeed sign on for The Red Devils for the coming PL season, providing an exciting backup option for Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

Tottenham's ability to play in their temporary Wembley home did not start off well as they failed to take advantage of a Chelsea side coming off a bad performance and it was the Blues who took the points in a 1-2 final.

It was a frustrating opener to be sure, as Spurs enjoyed 68% of the possession, had several more attempts on target and had a corner kick advantage of 14 to 3. But the curse of Harry Kane in August continued, as he managed to hit the post in this one, the second week in a row, as well as pick up a yellow card for the second match running. Christian Eriksen was able to make a fantasy contribution once again, as his free kick in the 82nd minute was directed in by Michy Batshuayi for an own goal, leveling the match temporarily. Chelsea found a winner minutes later, as Hugo Lloris was beaten on the short side by Marcos Alonso. The stats would make one think there's not reason to panic with this Tottenham side, but they had a chance to take points from their rivals who they were coming off a poor performance and two suspended starters, as well as dismiss the "Wembley effect", and today they failed.

Chelsea got back on track after their opening slip up against Burnley by using a pair of Marcos Alonso goals to lead the way to a 1-2 win over London rivals Tottenham.

After a week of speculation regarding how Chelsea's future looked following the loss to the Clarets, they responded positively today, as Victor Moses returned to the XI from suspension, Alvaro Morata was preferred to Michy Batshuayi and Tiémoué Bakayoko made his debut. The headlines belong to Alonso though, who reminded us of how dangerous he is in the Blues attack. A foul om David Luiz midway through the first half set up a free kick for the left-footed Alonso, and he curled one over the wall and past a helpless Hugo Lloris to put Chelsea ahead. While Spurs had their moments, Chelsea were in control late into the match but Batshuayi, who came on as a substitute, directed a SPurs free kick into Chelsea's own goal. Alonso saved the day though with a run down the left after a pass from Pedro and he beat the keeper short side for the match-winner.

Newcastle is off to a dubious start after a 1-0 loss to Huddersfield Town, its second straight loss to start the season.

The Magpies have yet to score a goal in either of their Premier League matches to start the season, but manager Rafa Benitez is hoping that new signing Joselu can help. The former Stoke City forward debuted in black and white early on in the second half and would have had a debut goal if it wasn't for two hard-earned saves from Huddersfield Town keeper Jonas Lossl. Having lost Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett to injury, Benitez added Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba to the back-line.

Arsenal a good goal called offside and saw two reasonable penalty shouts ignored as they dropped a 1-0 decision to old nemesis Stoke City.

The defending on Jese's lone goal of the match was poor but Arsenal will feel they got the short end of the stick from the officials. Lacazette's goal should certainly have been allowed and if even one of the two penalty shouts had been called the dodgy defense from Monreal would have been forgotten.

Manchester United continued their strong start to the season with a convincing 0-4 win over Swansea City in which Paul Pogba provided a goal and two assists.

The opening half of the game was a possession battle which the Red Devils won, but outside a header off the bar on 10 minutes by Phil Jones, the Swans defense looked up to the task, keeping Romelu Lukaky quiet. Right on the 45th minute though, a corner kick was headed powerfully by Pogba on toward goal and Eric Bailly was there to poach the ball in on the line. It would remain 0-1 until the 80th minute and that's when the explosion happened. First, a Swansea turnover allowed Henrikh Mkhitaryan to pick out an open Lukaku who slotted home for his 3rd goal of the young campaign. Mkhi then fed Pogba a clever ball and the latter looped one over the Swans keeper for the third goal. Substitute Anthony Martial joined in the fun moments after that, with Pogba again playing provider. The defense was solid but were not tested too much. There is fantasy gold all over this side right now.

Swansea City's home opener was one to forget as they ran up against a blossoming Manchester United attack and were beaten soundly, 0-4.

It was always going to be a tough assignment for Paul Clement to get a positive result here, but his gameplan at least kept his side in the match right up until the 45th minute. Their best chance to score came very early on when Jordan Ayew found himself in loads of space, took it into the area and tried to lob one into the far corner but it hit the woodwork. The defense, meanwhile, did its best to stave off United's possession advantage as Roque Mesa made his first PL start in central midfield. They would concede just before halftime though from a corner and United were in control for the entire second half, eventually pounding the Swans with three goals in the space of four minutes. It is rather clear Swansea need to do some shopping for impact players before this transfer window closes.

Slaven Bilic may be forced back into the transfer market after Winston Reid suffered what looked to be a serious calf injury when warming up at St Marys’ on Saturday.

The West Ham centre-back, who has just signed a new six-year contract, only returned to the squad 3 weeks ago following knee surgery in May, but at first glance, Reid could be set for another extended spell out after being carried off on a stretcher. Slaven Bilic made four changes from the side well-beaten at Old Trafford, and it was one of those players – Angelo Ogbonna - who was recalled to the starting line-up to partner Jose Fonte. James Collins is capable of playing centrally while Cheikhou Kouyate had a spell as makeshift defender last season, but neither is ideal. Bilic may consider a move for Eliaquim Mangala, who was on the West Ham radar, before they dropped their interest in favour of William Carvalho.

Hal Robson-Kanu was the hero and almost a goat as his goal provided the difference before he was sent off late.

The Wales international contributed a second unlikely scorer for Tony Pulis for the second consecutive weekend. Albion completed their second consecutive 1-0 win of the season in fine Pulls fashion. The one downside was Robson-Kanu being sent off late after his elbow came in too high fighting for a ball in the air.

Warford upset the odds to secure an impressive away win over Bournemouth.

The Hornets went ahead thanks to the contributions of two new signings. Andre Gray crossed for Brazilian Richarlison to prod home the first for Marco Silva's men. The second was a throwback to twelve months ago though, as Etienne Capoue struck from range to double the lead. Bournemouth started with afobe up front, but he saw his best chance sved while Josh King also headed an opportunity over the bar.
