Coming on at the hour mark to replace Ross Barkley, Everton midfielder Leon Osman was the catalyst Roberto Martinez needed, as he provided a goal and an assist to account for the Toffee's scores, resulting in a 0-2 victory against Aston Villa.

Tim Howard was the hero early, saving a penalty taken by Christian Benteke. Much of the first hour of the match was end to end, but there were no goals to account for. Martinez then made the right decision in bringing on Osman. Attacking down the left side, Osman was the middleman between Baines and Lukaku that resulted in the Lukaku goal. He then scored himself to wrap up the points for Everton thanks to a Gareth Barry assist. The lack of guaranteed pitch time makes Osman a troublesome play in fantasy.

Second-half goals from Erik Lamela and Harry Kane sent Tottenham into the quarter-finals of the League Cup at the expense of Championship side Brighton.

For the second mid-week running we have Kane and Lamela scoring the goals to give Tottenham a victory. Lamela was introduced at half-time and bagged the opener within 10 minutes after some neat interplay with Roberto Soldado, before Kane sealed the win by stabbing the ball home after Soldado's shot was saved. Kane is the club's top scorer in all competitions this season with six goals and may have done enough to earn a start against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Manchester City suffered their second defeat in only five days as Newcastle went to the Etihad on Wednesday evening in the Capital One Cup and dominated their fourth round encounter and deservedly dumped the current trophy holders out of the competition.

Although the manner of the defeat - lacklustre & off the pace – will be of some concern and the way City have defended recently – six goals conceded in three games – the injuries suffered by David Silva [knee] and Yaya Toure [groin] will fill Pellegrini with trepidation. The Spanish playmaker lasted a mere 9 minutes when an innocuous shirt pull by the returning Ryan Taylor twisted the midfielders knee straining ligaments – his participation in this weekends’ derby is in serious doubt. Toure will also be assessed after the Ivorian departed with a groin problem although the Chilean manger is not expecting a serious issue.

Harry Redknapp provided a team news update on Thursday ahead of Saturdays’ trip to Stamford Bridge with the Hoops expecting to retain the same squad which took three points in the victory over Aston Villa at Loftus Road on Monday Night Football.

Redknapp remains "hopeful" Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch [both hamstring] will return to training next week – meaning game week 11 is a realistic target - but the big news is that Adel Taarabt is back in contention following his recent public spat with the manager. Despite lacking match-fitness Redknapp "wouldn’t hesitate" to include the attacking midfielder and with a point to prove the player is worth some serious consideration over the coming weeks. Rio Ferdinand serves the first of a three game domestic ban while Nedum Onuoha [hamstring] and Alex McCarthy [thigh] remain out.

Opportunities for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy have been limited since the summer signing arrived from Reading in August but the reserve stopper was afforded his first Premier League start against Liverpool in game week eight with Rob Green side-lined because of illness.

After a solid performance between the sticks Harry Redknapp was faced with a potential tricky decision on whether to stick with his number two keeper or revert back to Rob Green. However a training ground injury ruled Alex McCarthy [thigh] out of game against Aston Villa match paving the way for Rob Green to make a quick return having missed one match due to tonsillitis. During the interim period Brian Murphy is likely to take his place in the match-day squad.

Wayne Rooney has been declared fully fit for the upcoming Manchester Derby this weekend following rumors earlier this week that he might miss the big match.

Wayne Rooney was reportedly seen limping at a sponsor event earlier this week leading to speculation that the newly returned from suspension forward might miss out despite being eligible to play again. Those rumors have been put to rest by "sources close to the team" which will be a big boost to the Red Devils given the poor efforts turned in by Adnan Januzaj and Juan Mata in Rooney's absence and the injuries that seem to be plaguing Falcao.

Theo Walcott's return to the starting line-up will likely be put off for another week with Arsenal in desperate need of three points against Burnley.

After dropping points to Hull City and a generally uninspiring start to the season, Arsene Wenger doesn't have many degrees of freedom when it comes to starting his best, and least risky, starting line-up each week. With Walcott not yet a proven commodity it seems most likely that he will hope that the team can build a lead that will allow him to bring Walcott in to the match without risking any points in the standings. The wait continues for Walcott and fantasy managers alike.

For the second time in less than a week, Stoke City fell to Southampton with this one seeing the Potters eliminated from the Capital One Cup 3-2.

After a tense 1-0 loss to Southampton in the Premier League over the weekend, Stoke City were hoping to exact some revenge in the Capital One Cup but it was not to be. Despite goals from Steven Nzonzi and Mame Biram Diouf Mark Hughes' men couldn't get the win as one of the signings of the summer, Graziano Pelle, scored a brace and Shane Long added another as the Saints took a 3-1 lead and managed to hold on 3-2 for the win.

Bournemouth scored a shock win over West Brom to put them into the quarter finals of that competition for the first time ever.

The Baggies fielded a team of mostly squad players for the match-up but having improved their depth over the summer would still have expected to win this match. Instead they found themselves able to get only an own goal from Bournemouth defender Tommy Elphick. Of even more concern is the fact that they lost the possession battle 48% to 52% to the club currently fourth in the Championship. Maybe the Baggies' depth isn't all that we thought it might be.

Lukasz Fabianski has continued his impressive season for Swansea and helped them keep a clean sheet over the weekend.

Swansea faced a poor Leicester City side at home but it was still a good outing for Fabianski who was able to save four shots. The ex-Arsenal goalkeeper is third amongst goalkeepers in fantasy scoring this season behind Thibaut Courtois and Fraser Forster. Swansea don't have a good enough defense to make Fabianski match-up proof but he remains a fantastic option against teams in the lower half of the table.

Swansea City are appealing Federico Fernandez's suspension after the defender was sent off during the Swans Capital One Cup loss to Liverpool yesterday.

With the suspension left as it is, Fernandez would then not be eligible for another league match until November 29th, effectively losing a starting defender for a month. The foul which got him sent off was soft by anyone's standards and Swansea may have a good case to get their defender off the hook. It is the least they deserve considering Liverpool went on to score in the closing seconds and win with the man advantage. Jordi Amat would likely deputize should the suspension stay put.

After starting Newcastle's first six games, Alan Pardew benched Remy Cabella for the past three, but the promising midfielder will hope to regain a regular spot in the XI after an effective substitute appearance in their win over Tottenham.

Cabella and Sammy Ameobi were inserted into the match at the start of the second half against Spurs and their influence could not have been more noticeable. Ameobi scored six seconds after the second half began and Cabella delivered a cross that was headed home by Ayoze Perez for the game-winner. Cabella was a major signing for the Magpies in the summer and they need all the attacking help they can get. While not recommended as a play this weekend, he should be on your monitor for future gameweeks if Pardew starts him.
