Michy Batshuayi has withdrawn from the Belgium squad for their upcoming friendlies after aggravating a foot injury and returned to Chelsea for further assessment.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez confirmed, speaking ahead of Friday's friendly with Mexico, that Batshuayi arrived in camp carrying the injury and did not suffer the problem in training with the Red Devils. "When Michy arrived he was in pain so he," said Martinez in a press conference on Thursday. "He is out both games and has already left for Chelsea." While the extent of Batshuayi's injury is not yet known, the news will come as a concern for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte with just one other recognized striker in Alvaro Morata at his disposal. The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 12 appearances in all competitions this season, including a brace off the bench in the 4-2 win over Watford last month.

Joel Matip has emerged as an early doubt for the opener against West Ham after limping off just 22 minutes into the 3-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

The Liverpool defender only recently re-joined his team-mates following a similar setback in March which required surgery. Matip has been blighted by ongoing thigh issues and this latest setback threatens to rule him out of game week one. "It’s not the same injury. It’s another muscle – it looks like, hopefully, only a little tear," Jurgen Klopp told the waiting press in his post-match interview. "We will see, but we cannot say any more about it now. It is of course the most negative thing about the day. It’s not cool. Maybe tomorrow or the day after we will know more, but in this moment, we only know that it was too painful for him to carry on." Dejan Lovren is already out of the first game following his involvement in the World Cup finals while Klopp is yet to make a decision on Trent Alexander-Arnold who may be given permission to return early.

Manchester United suffered their first injury setback of pre-season after Antonio Valencia limped off against San Jose Earthquakes with less than 10 minutes on the clock.

The recently appointed club captain hobbled to the sidelines with an apparent calf injury at the Levi’s Stadium leaving Matteo Darmian as the only available experienced right-back. On Thursday, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed new signing Diogo Dalot was targeting a return in September after undergoing knee surgery to repair meniscus damage. Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof have been given time off following their exertions in Russia meaning the United backline is beginning to look a little stretched. There was no post-match update as to the severity of Valencia’s injury, but with reports suggesting Mourinho is willing to offload Darmian and Napoli monitoring the situation, he’ll be hoping the injury is nothing long-term. Alexis Sanchez started the game after joining the squad late due to visa complications while Memphis Depay, back after his recent loan spell at Lyon, grabbed one of the goals in the 3-1 victory.

Tottenham announced that winger Heung-Min Son has signed a new contract through the 2023 season.

The new five-year deal comes after two highly productive seasons for Son, including last year's 12-goal and eight-assist campaign, and caps off a summer where he led South Korea to a massive victory over Germany that eliminated the reigning world champions from the World Cup. Said Son: "It feels great. I’ve learned so many things in the last three years and we’re all looking forward. We deserve to win something and deserve to make some history. It’s time to do it and to believe in ourselves. I’m always positive with the lads and looking forward to playing again in the Premier League and the Champions League."

Goalkeeper Joe Hart has returned to Manchester City for the time being, but is actively seeking a move away.

The former England No. 1 is behind both Ederson and Claudio Bravo and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Torino and West Ham, but mentioned he would like to seal a permanent move away from the club where he won two Premier League titles. While Hart said the league doesn't matter, reports suggest Chelsea are interested in a £5 million move as Thibaut Courtois looks set on a move to Real Madrid. "I need to go somewhere permanent, I think that's obvious," said Hart I did what I did in the previous two seasons because I needed to play to be involved in the World Cup - and look where that got me. I'm experienced, I've played at the highest level for a long time and done a lot of things in the game."

Tom Cleverley will miss the opening weeks of the new season after undergoing surgery.

A decision was taken for the Watford midfielder to go under the knife to cure a long-standing Achilles problem. Cleverley joined the Hornets on a 5-year deal following a successful loan-spell but endured a frustrating 2017/18 due to ongoing hamstring problems which effectively ended his season in January. It was hoped that the break would resolve the issue but following his return, the problem once again flared-up meaning Watford will be without the services of Cleverley until September at the earliest. "This is something I’ve put up with during my career so it’s good to get it sorted," he said. "I had been used to playing with pain in my ankle. Now that’s going to be a thing of the past, I’ll be fit and raring to win my place back once I’ve finished my rehab." Javi Gracia could take a punt on former Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell who is currently on trial at the club with Nathaniel Chalobah still working his way back to full fitness.

Robbie Brady made his long-awaited comeback from injury during a 45-minute run out against Curzon Ashton.

The Republic of Ireland international ruptured his patellar tendon following an innocuous looking challenge on Harry Maguire back in December which ended his season. Brady has spent the last seven months working his way back to fitness and re-joined the main group earlier this month after stepping up his recovery. Ahead of the clubs first pre-season game in Cork, manager Sean Dyche admitted that although Brady was "going really well" they would err on the side of caution as it was still very early in his progress. However, he was named in the starting XI against the National League North outfit on Friday: "It was brilliant for Robbie. He’s been working so hard with the physios to get right," said First-team coach Tony Loughlan. "It’s fantastic, I’m really pleased for him. He looked very sharp and could have got on the scoresheet. I don’t think he wanted to come off. The plan was always 45 minutes and he’s really pleased with his evening’s work."

Everton are closing in on the capture of Richarlison in a deal that could be worth up-to £50m.

New Toffees boss Marco Silva was key in helping to bring the Brazil under-20 star to the Premier League from Campeonato Brasileiro Série A outfit Fluminense less than a year ago when he was manager of Watford. Richarlison took the league by storm following a string of outstanding performances before Christmas [5-goals and 4-assists in 13 games], but he faded badly during the second half of the season and struggled to recapture his early form [no returns in 2018]. However, his dip wasn’t enough to dissuade potential suitors and Everton look to have stolen a march on their rivals with the Hornets poised to recoup more four times their outlay in just 11 months. The pace and power of Richarlison would go some way towards helping abate growing tension on the Everton terraces as supporters became increasing disillusioned under former manager Sam Allardyce.

Gary Cahill’s Chelsea career is in serious doubt as Juventus defender Daniele Rugani looks set to become Maurizio Sarri’s second major signing.

The Italy international will cost in the region of £44m and is expected to sign a five-year contract worth around £77k per week. His arrival could bring to an end Cahill’s six-year association with the club and he will seek assurances over his future. Sarri was keen to stress that the 32-year-old still has a role to play: "In respect to Cahill he can still give us a lot," but the England international must accept that, going forward, opportunities will be limited. Rugani would join Jorginho, who signed from Napoli last week, and there could be more new faces at Stamford Bridge as Sarri looks to build a squad capable of improving on last seasons fifth place finish. Kasper Schmeichel is on the Chelsea radar with Thibaut Courtois attracting interest from Real Madrid, but if the Blues fail to lure the Denmark international away from Leicester then former goalkeeper Petr Cech could make a shock return.

Manchester United confirm Alexis Sanchez will join the squad in the United States after visa complications were resolved by club representatives.

Earlier this week, manager Jose Mourinho expressed his disappointment that Sanchez was unable to enter the country as he is currently serving a 16-month sentence for committing tax fraud in Spain. "It's really bad and he's really sad," he said of the Chilean. "It's not good for him and not good for me, or for the team. There is no-one to blame. I know the club is making the effort but the US authorities have their processes." However, just days later, Sanchez hinted that he could be heading Stateside: ‘Last training session in Manchester’. United confirmed on Friday that the 29-year-old could be available for the match against San Jose Earthquakes after flying to Los Angeles: "It’s about when Alexis lands," said Mourinho. "Because he trained with us for five days before we departed. When he arrives, he has to play. If he is coming, he has to play."

Huddersfield Town has completed the signing of Adama Diakhaby from French side AS Monaco for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old, a former France Under-21 international, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal. A left-footed forward who can play on either wing on in the central attacking midfielder role, Diakhaby scored two goals and tallied three assists in 22 Ligue One appearances for Monaco last season. He becomes Town's fifth signing of the summer, joining Ben Hamer, Ramadan Sobhi, Juninho Bacuna, Erik Durm and Terence Kongolo at the John Smith's Stadium. Said David Wagner: "Diakhaby is a direct player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and with genuine pace, which suits our style perfectly. We’re really looking forward to working with him on the training pitch and seeing him pull on our blue and white shirt in games, as I’m sure our fans are too!"

Leicester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Danny Ward from Liverpool for a fee of £12.5 million.

The 25-year-old leaves Anfield just a day after Liverpool signed AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson for a fee of £65m. Following the departure of Ben Hamer for Huddersfield Town this summer, Ward arrives to bring competition to Leicester's goalkeeping ranks as he joins fellow keepers Kasper Schmeichel and Eldin Jakupović. The Welsh international is expected to serve as the understudy of Schmeichel, though he could be thrust into the first-choice role if the Dane was to leave amid interest from Chelsea and Roma. Speaking to LCFC TV, Ward said: "I’m delighted to be here and I’m really looking forward to the future with this Football Club. I’ve come here to develop my all-round game and hopefully help deliver some more success. The Club has had that in recent years and hopefully there’s more to come in the future."
