Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor is doubtful for the team's match against West Ham this weekend due to a knock he picked up during the team's 2-0 loss to Everton.

Agbonlahor suffered an ankle knock during the game and seems to be shaping up like a late fitness check for this game. Villa need him in the squad as they haven't scored a goal in three Premier League games and Gabby worked well with Christian Benteke at the beginning of the season, forming a lethal combination. Expect him to play if healthy and make sure to check back before the weekend for an update.

Everton are reported to be on the verge of signing center-back Aleksandar Dragovic from Dynamo Kiev. But is he a replacement for Sylvain Distin or John Stones…?

Signals coming out of Everton suggest they are close to signing a much needed center-back, but the mood is far from celebratory. Reports say the Toffees have moved ahead of Napoli in the race for Dynamo Kiev’s Austrian international Aleksandar Dragovic. The 29-year-old is being touted as a replacement for the departed Sylvain Distin, but many will be thinking that the deal is merely paving the way for John Stones to join Chelsea. Dragovic will cost around £9 million, which will leave plenty of change from the £30-odd million tag placed on Stones. But losing their prized asset on the eve of the season will be a huge blow to morale. With Romelu Lukaku possibly out for the big kick-off with a hamstring injury and a ‘disillusioned’ James McCarthy ready to open negotiations with Tottenham, it has not been a great for boss Roberto Martinez.

Crystal Palace are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of center-back Ashley Williams, according to Swansea manager Garry Monk…

Most things have gone right for Palace this summer. The signings of Yohan Cabaye and Patrick Bamford have excited the fans. The acquisition of young goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and the new contract accepted by Scott Dann provide stability. And theMost things have gone right for Palace this summer. The signings of Yohan Cabaye and Patrick Bamford have excited the fans. The acquisition of young goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and the new contract accepted by Scott Dann provide stability. And the early season form of fit-again Jordan Mutch has been a bonus. Alan Pardew was looking to spend up to £10 million on securing the services of Swansea captain Ashley Williams, but according to his manager Garry Monk should accept defeat. Telling TalkSPORT, ‘Ash will be here, he’ll be with Swansea’. Fairly clear cut.

Eden Hazard scored a wonder goal to open up the scoring between Chelsea and Barcelona in the International Champions Cup.

Chelsea won the match on penalties after finishing 2-2 in regulation, but it was Hazard's goal that was the most impressive. The Belgian midfielder was recently praised by Mourinho for being better than Cristiano Ronaldo and he surely didn't disappoint today. Hazard enters the season as a top three fantasy player and should be drafted in the top three in almost all fantasy formats.

Gary Cahill scored the equalizer in Chelsea's 2-2 match against Barcelona, simultaneously taking a punch from the Barcelona goalkeeper.

Cahill was hit fairly hard as he went up to score the second Chelsea goal and was bleeding badly. He had to leave the match, but we are assuming he would have been left in if this was a competitive game. We'll wait for an update just in case, but assume he should be OK heading into week one. Cahill is looking at another season as Chelsea's starting central defender alongside John Terry and is a good fantasy option as part of the best Premier League defense. The match is now headed to penalties.

Junior Stanislas made a case for a starting job by bagging a brace as AFC Bournemouth came away with a tidy 0-3 win at Yeovil Town.

Stanislas isn't thought to have a spot for himself claimed in Eddie Howe's XI but the manager is certainly paying attention and should one of his midfield options not live up to the billing, Stanislas stands to see some time. He is going for the minimum price in fpl and a promoted side is likeliest to produce a fantasy weapon from those budget options. He scored with a spot kick in the first half and then from open play early in the second, assisted by Joshua King. King himself would grab the third goal and is also making noise to join Callum Wilson in a forward role.

Everton won their preseason match against Dundee United 0-2, but the big news is that Romelu Lukaku had to be removed with a hamstring strain.

There is a hamstring virus going around the Toffees right now, as Steven Pienaar and Gerard Deulofeu are both set to start the season in the physio room with hamstring strains of their own. We will need to wait on the scan results to get an idea of the severity for Lukaku but one has to put the young Belgian's Week 1 availability in doubt. Roberto Martinez called his removal a precaution but the scan will tell the story. Should he not be ready, Steven Naismith and Arouna Kone present options for Martinez. On a positive note from today's match, Ross Barkley scored along with Conor McAleny.

Micah Richards wore the armband for Aston Villa once ahead tonight and seems set to be their captain for the upcoming season.

Richards is a quality center-back who's had trouble staying fit the past couple of seasons but Aston Villa are giving him a chance at revitalizing his career. Richards getting the armband in pre-season is a huge vote of confidence from Tim Sherwood and we like his chances of starting this season as long as he remains fit. Villa's defense should be decent enough to see Richards perform as an average fantasy defenders, and he can provide good value in late fantasy drafts.

Dimitri Payet was credited with the goal that gave West Ham a 1-0 win over Norwich City earlier today.

Payet took a late corner kick that was "turned in via a combination of Reece Oxford and a Norwich defender". The new Hammers forward has been great in pre-season and figures to be a regular starter for them in the upcoming season. West Ham were solid today, going toe to toe with Norwich and eventually taking over the match for the last 30 minutes or so. They'll need to improve more to be competitive in the Premier League, but they are headed in the right direction so far.

Claudio Ranieri played his starting XI the full 90 minutes today against Burton Albion in what looked like his best side.

Ranieri started Schmeichel, Wasilewski, Huth, Chilwell, Albrighton, King, Hammond, Fuchs, Okazaki, Kramaric, and Vardy. His team played well and were able to beat Burton Albion 2-1 with two goals from Jamie Vardy. Andrej Kramaric and Andy King both hit the woodwork in the first half and Kramaric was especially impressive today. If this does indeed become Leicester's starting lineup, Vardy and Okazaki would have the biggest fantasy values from the Foxes, with Fuchs, Wes Morgan, Albrighton, and Kramaric making up tier two. We should also expect Wes Morgan to replace Ben Chilwell in the starting lineup once he gets fit after participating in the Gold Cup.

Libor Kozak scored twice in Aston Villa's 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton.

Kozak started the match and played very well, leading the line for Aston Villa alongside Gabby Agbonlahor in a 4-4-2. Scott Sinclair and Leandro Bacuna were on the wings, supporting the attack. Kozak had a number of chances to score and netted on two of them before being substituted for newcomer Jordan Ayew. With Villa set to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, that seems to leave them with four strikers in what will presumably be a 4-4-2 formation this season. The unknown leaves all of them with a decreased fantasy value at the moment.

Aston Villa have signed Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo.

Crespo is a 28-year-old who has experience at both La Liga and Serie A. He is generally deployed as a full-back who can play on both sides of the pitch. He joins Villa for an undisclosed fee but is expected to feature on the right, across from Jordan Amavi. He isn't known to go forward very well and he lacks the attacking statistics required to make him a useful fantasy player, so we recommend that you avoid him in your fantasy drafts.
