Swansea City earned an away point at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon to keep pace in the relegation race.

The Swans would have hoped for more after a promising start before taking the lead in the 60th minute thanks to Jordan Ayew's fourth goal of the season. The Ghana international found himself on the end of a long, looping cross from Mike van der Hoorn, but saw his first header deftly saved by Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow. But Ayew continued on to his rebound, looping another header that this time fell over Darlow for the lead. It was short-lived as Newcastle equalized just eight minutes later, while the Swans best chance to win came in the 93rd minute when Wilfried Bony's shot was cleared off the line with Darlow out of his net.

Mauricio Sarri will be even more eager to bring in a new forward after his Blues were impotent at the Emirates.

The Blues dominated possession against Arsenal but could only muster a single shot on target and no goals. The Gunners are no pushovers at home but if the Blues want to stay in the top four then they will need to get Gonzalo Higuain, or a similarity talented forward, into the fold ASAP to give Eden Hazard the foil he needs to return to the wide role he is most effective in.

Crystal Palace will feel hard done by to not come away with at least a point after scoring three goals against Liverpool.

Crystal Palace got off to a great start with the opening goal in the 34th minute when Wilfried Zaha blew by his defender and found Andros Townsend for the easy goal. But Liverpool pulled two back immediately after the halftime break and took the lead before James Tomkins' header in the 65th minute saw the sides even at two goals apiece. But that's when Liverpool pulled away with a second goal from Mohamed Salah and a stoppage-time goal from Sadio Mane that proved to be the difference after Max Meyer also scored a late stoppage-time goal.

Manchester United were made to work for their 2-1 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United took the lead through Paul Pogba midway through the first half. The World Cup winner won the spot-kick by drawing a foul from left-back Gaetan Bong and place his penalty to the right at waist-height beyond the diving Button. United doubled their lead just before the interval through Marcus Rashford, who beat Pascal Gross with a nice piece of skill in the box before placing the ball high into the far top-corner. Pascal Gross brought the visitors back into the game with a finish with hit the crossbar on its way in. The Seagulls gathered momentum and put a lot of pressure on United but the Red Devils held on to maintain OGS' perfect record since taking charge.

From the unlikeliest of sources, Newcastle saw its five-match winless streak come to an end in a 3-0 win over Cardiff City.

The action started in the 24th minute when Fabian Schar found the ball at his feet from just outside the penalty area. The Swiss center-back dribbled into the box with ease and put away his first ever Premier League goal to give the Magpies a home lead. It turned into a day to remember for the summer signing when Schar scored his second goal of the game when a flick-on off a corner fell right to him at the back post as Schar knocked it in with his thigh. And then in the 93rd, Newcastle added a third goal for its highest output of the season when Salomon Rondon juked his defender and found Ayoze Perez for the final goal, bringing the club out of the relegation zone.

James Ward-Prowse scored the pick of the bunch as Southampton beat Everton 2-1 at St. Mary's.

The Saints had the best chances of the first half as Danny Ings twice tested Jordan Pickford between the sticks for the visitors and Nathan Redmond also saw a driving effort deflect off the post. They made amends for their profligacy in style early in the second half as JWP drove a fine finish into the top corner. The lead was doubled courtesy of an own-goal by Lucas Digne soon after, as the French full-back's attempted tackle on Redmond found its way into the net. Gylfi Sigurdsson did pull one goal back for Everton in injury time but it was too little too late from the Toffees who end the evening in 11th place. Southampton notch up two consecutive wins for the second time in 2019 and move up to 15th.

Watford enjoyed a slight edge in possession and shots on target but couldn't do much with it as they and Burnley drew 0-0.

The Hornets are a tough side to figure. Their last loss to a non-big six club came on December 1st. While they didn't lose to Burnley,a home draw with no goals feels like and opportunity lost to push forward in the table. For fantasy managers, the lack of consistency is maddening when trying to get a handle on expectations for Hornets players.

Sean Dyche is slowly righting the ship at Turf Moor as Burnley picked up a solid road point at Vicarage Road.

While Watford will be disappointed in dropping two points against Burnley, perhaps they shouldn't be. The draw comes on the heels of three consecutive wins for the Clarets who seem to be figuring things out after a miserable first half of the season. The nil-nil draw also marks the second clean sheet in their past four league matches making Burnley defenders fantasy-relevant again.

Claudio Ranieri is looking to bring in an experienced defender with Alfie Mawson sidelined and Timothy Fosu-Mensah potentially returning to Manchester United.

The Fulham boss revealed the bizarre incident behind the absence of Mawson who is yet to play in 2019. "It was a very strange injury. He just changed his boots. It was unbelievable," said Ranieri. "He needs more time. How long? I don't know." Meanwhile, Fosu-Mensah has played just 26 minutes of Premier League football in the last two months with Ranieri keen to terminate his season-long loan. "If Manchester United want him he can go, because with me he hasn't played often, and I understand he is young, and he needs to play." However, United would prefer the 21-year-old to stay and fight for his place despite him being way down the pecking order. Ranieri recently said it would "be fantastic" if they could sign Chelsea defender Gary Cahill in the January window, but despite the clubs agreeing a permanent deal, the centre-backs personal terms remain a stumbling block.

Liverpool survived a strong push from an upstart Crystal Palace side in a 4-3 comeback win at Anfield.

Liverpool entered half-time after conceding first in the 34th minute on a quick strike from Andros Townsend via Wilfried Zaha. But in the first minute after the half Mohamed Salah scored the first of his two with a deft touch on a high-arching clearance. Just seven minutes later, Roberto Firmino gave Liverpool the lead with a deflected shot. After Crystal Palace equalised in the 65th, Salah gave Liverpool the lead once again (his ninth goal in his last eight league matches) when he latched onto a cross from James Milner, who was later sent off for two yellow cards. Sadio Mane added an insurance goal in stoppage time for the 4-3 win.
