Glen Johnson was a late scratch on Saturday and instead, youngster John Flanagan played right wing-back against the Gunners. Johnson had pain in his face and jaw, and was taken to the hospital for tests.

Johnson was released from the hospital, and is expected to be back in training this week ahead of Liverpool's trip to struggling Fulham.

Aleksandar Mitrović will not be a part of the squad when Newcastle take on Arsenal at the Emirates.

Speaking ahead of the game, manager Rafa Benitez confirmed the hot-headed striker has a "little problem" with his back which will keep him out of the clash. Mitrovic has been little more than a bit part player this term – just 89 Premier League minutes – while he is yet to start a game. The Serbian looks surplus to requirements and may leave during the January window if Newcastle can bring in reinforcements – Danny Ings is one option having been linked with a loan move following his recovery from injury. Dwight Gayle is expected to lead the United attack on Saturday with Joselu providing back-up from the bench. Paul Dummett will be included in the squad for the first time since the opening weekend and Isaac Hayden could return to the side in place of Jonjo Shelvey who begins a two-match ban. Jesus Gamez is also missing after picking up an unspecified injury in training.

A persistent knee problem is expected to keep Marouane Fellaini out for the remainder of 2017.

The Manchester United midfielder suffered a knee ligament [medial] strain while on international duty in October and spent a month on the sidelines. But, despite his return, Fellaini was still hampered by the problem and he hasn’t featured in the matchday squad since the win over Brighton in game week 13. He will now miss the entire festive programme and with his current deal due to expire in 2018, the 30-year-old may have played his last game for the club. Eric Bailly is another absentee after Jose Mourinho confirmed a decision has been taken for the defender to undergo ankle surgery. "I don’t say [he’s out] for the rest of the season, but it’s for the next two or three months." Fortunately, United are well-stocked in the heart of defence with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind all able to play centrally.

After having been called out recently by manager Roy Hodgson, Christian Benteke broke out of a slump with a goal and an assist as Crystal Palace beat Leicester City handily, 0-3.

Easily Palace's finest result of the season to date and they did it against a Leicester side who had been red hot and they did it on the Foxes' ground. The Eagles opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when Andros Townsend sent a cross into the box and Benteke finished with a strong header. Twenty minutes later, Palace were on the counter and Benteke sent the ball through to a streaking Wilfried Zaha, with the latter slotting home. Any thoughts of a Leicester comeback was stamped out when they went down to ten men in the second half, but Bakary Sako managed to add another goal in the dying moments, curling a ball into the top corner after being teed up by Reuben-Loftus Cheek on yet another counter. After such a miserable start to their campaign, Palace have now gone seven unbeaten in league play.

Leicester City were in for a surprise this afternoon, putting up a dud at home against Crystal Palace in a 0-3 final.

There aren't many clubs entering the weekend as hot as the Foxes had been, but you would never have known it seeing their display today. Riyad Mahrez and the rest of the attack were virtually invisible in the first half, while the defense conceded twice, including on a counter-attack. They looked to have cut the two goal deficit in half on the hour mark, but a Vincent Iborra headed goal was disallowed as the midfielder fouled his defender before the ball came his way. Moments later, Leicester ended all hope of finding a positive outcome when Wilfred Ndidi took a dive in the box, picking up his second booking for simulation and sending jeers around King Power Stadium. Palace would then tack on another goal late to complete the lopsided result. A battle with Manchester United awaits next weekend.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola won't have to wait much longer to see reinforcements in defense.

John Stones has missed the last month of the season after sustaining a hamstring strain that has thinned City's backline. That, combined with an injury to Vincent Kompany last weekend, doesn't give Guardiola too many options as the club enters the festive period. However, Guardiola said he is hopeful Kompany can return in the next week, although not tomorrow against Spurs, while Stones is eyeing a return around Boxing Day: "He’s much, much better. I think he’s at four weeks [of his recovery]. The doctor said he would be out between four and six. In one or two weeks, he will be ready."

Everton's recent run of form has been met by more good news with Yannick Bolasie set to return from a long layoff.

The Congo international has missed exactly one year since suffering knee ligament damage last December. Bolasie recently played for the U23s and is now in contention to face Swansea City on Monday night, manager Sam Allardyce confirmed: "We’ve got Yannick Bolasie training and he will probably play some part for the Under-23s tonight. We’ll see what happens with that and may – depending on the whole team here – have a discussion on whether that makes him available for selection on Monday night against Swansea."

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed Alvaro Morata is available for the visit of Southampton on Saturday.

Morata missed the midweek victory over Huddersfield Town, with Conte citing a back issue and fatigue as the reason for the striker's absence. However, the Spain international has returned to full training and is expected to feature when the Blues host Southampton on Saturday afternoon. Morata is Chelsea's top scorer this season, with ten goals in 21 appearances across all competitions and nine from 15 league outings. If Morata isn't fit enough to start though, Eden Hazard could again play as a striker with Pedro and Willian in supporting roles. Speaking to reports at a press conference on Friday, Conte said: "He [Morata] trained with us two days ago, again yesterday and also today. He has this pain in his back but he’s in contention for tomorrow’s game."

West Ham will be without Winston Reid through a one-man ban for Saturday's match against Stoke City.

The New Zealand international clocked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Wednesday's draw with Arsenal and will have to sit out the match at the bet365 Stadium. The good news for David Moyes is Reid will be the only enforced changed, with no new injuries to report following the midweek clash. James Collins was fit enough to make the bench against Arsenal and could start in place of Reid, while Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell will likely round out the back line.
Dec 15 - 4:59 PM

Despite hopes that he would be ready for the weekend, Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of Arsenal's side that will face Newcastle at the Emirates on Saturday.

The Gunners will need a big bounce back after failing to score against West Ham in midweek. Part of the hope for a rebound was a quick return from the in form Welsh midfielder but it will apparently not come to pass. It seems more likely that he will have to wait until the Friday match with Liverpool to kick off Week 19. Jack Wilshere will almost certainly deputize again and, based on what we saw against West Ham, Arsenal shouldn't suffer too much for the difference between the two.

Theo Walcott has been a peripheral figure for Arsenal in the Premier League and he will get even further from the action as he misses the Week 18 match with Newcastle due to a groin injury.

Presumably, Walcott injured his groin in training but, given his injury history, it is possible that it was just getting out of bed in the morning. Such have been the struggles that the former Southampton youth product has faced in his years at Arsenal. The player has hopes of engineering a move away from the Emirates in January in an effort to get more playing time. Hopefully, he will get healthy soon and find a happy home for the second half of the season that will see him contribute in a meaningful way on the pitch.

Shkodran Mustafi should be fit to return to the Arsenal line-up for the visit of Newcastle on Saturday as part of Week 18 in the Premier League.

Mustafi is hardly the perfect center back but his absence has been felt at Arsenal. The match against Southampton could reasonably have expected to unfold differently if it had been Mustafi instead of Per Mertesacker trying to track Charlie Austin for the Saints' early goal. In general, Mertesacker's lack of mobility seems to have finally overcome his height and positional sense making him better suited for early round cup matches and, ultimately, the coaching role at the academy he is set to take next season. Look for Arsenal to tighten things up at the back if Mustafi does, indeed, return for Saturday as expected.
